Inferno, also known by its filename de_inferno, is a Multiplayer video game, multiplayer Level (video games), map in the ''Counter-Strike'' series of first-person shooter video games by Valve Corporation. The map was first created for the original ''Counter-Strike (video game), Counter-Strike'' in a 2001 update and has subsequently appeared in each series entry. While considered a traditional map in the series, its design differs from maps such as Dust II, featuring many hiding spots and branching, narrow paths. The map was remade from the ground up for ''Counter-Strike: Source'' in 2005, changing large parts of the map and moving the setting from the Middle East to Europe. The map returned for ''Counter-Strike: Global Offensive'' in 2012 and was revamped in a 2016 update, adjusting the map's graphics and visibility. ''Counter-Strike'' (also known as ''Half-Life: Counter-Strike'' or ''Counter-Strike 1.6'') is a tactical first-person shooter game developed by Valve. It was initially developed and released as a ''Half-Life'' modification by Minh "Gooseman" Le and Jess Cliffe in 1999, before Le and Cliffe were hired and the game's intellectual property acquired. ''Counter-Strike'' was released by Valve for Microsoft Windows in 2000, and is the first installment in the ''Counter-Strike'' series. Several remakes and ports were released on Xbox, as well as OS X and Linux. Set in various locations around the globe, players assume the roles of counter-terrorist forces and terrorist militants opposing them.
