Indy Women In Tech Championship
The Indy Women in Tech Championship was a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour, played in Indianapolis, Indiana. On September 27, 2016, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced that the LPGA would return to Indiana with a tournament at the Pete Dye-designed Brickyard Crossing Golf Resort at the speedway. Guggenheim Life and Annuity was named the sponsor of the Indy Women in Tech Championship, with the schedule from September 7–10, 2017. The Speedway had previously hosted PGA Tour and LPGA events on the former Speedway Golf Course (which was replaced with the Brickyard Crossing) in the 1960s, and a Champions Tour event in the 1990s on the Dye course. Although planned as a 72-hole event with a cut, it was shortened to 54 holes and ended on Saturday in 2017 since its date was the week before the Evian Championship, and players would be able to be in France in order to prepare for the major. Speedway, Indiana
Speedway is a town in Wayne Township, Marion County, Indiana, United States. The population was 11,812 at the 2010 U.S. Census. Speedway, which is an enclave of Indianapolis, is the home of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. History Speedway was laid out in 1912 as a residential suburb. It took its name from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is an early example of a residential community planned for the industrial plants located nearby. Carl G. Fisher, James A. Allison, Frank Wheeler, and Arthur Newby, founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, planned the suburb of Speedway west of the track. PGA Tour Champions (formerly the Senior PGA Tour and the Champions Tour) is a men's professional senior golf tour, administered as a branch of the PGA Tour. History and format The Senior PGA Championship, founded in 1937, was for many years the only high-profile tournament for golfers over 50. The idea for a senior tour grew out of a highly successful event in 1978, the Legends of Golf at Onion Creek Club in Austin, Texas, which featured competition between two-member teams of some of the greatest older golfers of that day. The tour was formally established in 1980 and was originally known as the Senior PGA Tour until October 2002. Brickyard Crossing Championship
The Comfort Classic was a golf tournament on the Champions Tour from 1988 to 2000. It was played in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Broadmoor Country Club (1988–1993) and at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Club (1994–2000). Title sponsorship was from Comfort Inn. The purse for the 2000 tournament was US$1,250,000, with $187,500 going to the winner. The tournament was founded in 1988 as the GTE North Classic. In 2000, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway started hosting the United States Grand Prix, which created an unfavorable tight scheduling conflict with the golf tournament. In addition, competitors had begun voicing complaints about the unchallenging nature of how the course was being set up for tournament play. The 500 Festival Open Invitation was a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour, played during the 1960s in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was sponsored by The 500 Festival, a not-for-profit volunteer organization created in 1957 to organize civic events to promote the Indianapolis 500.
