Indy Pride Festival
Indy Pride Festival, formerly Circle City IN Pride, is the annual week of LGBT pride events in Indianapolis. The week is organized by LGBT organization Indy Pride, Inc., and has been held under this name and organization for over a decade. In recent years, more than 95,000 gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual people have attended the festival. Indy Pride's Parade and Festival is held the 2nd Saturday in June, with a week of events leading up to it, in honor of the Stonewall Riots and in accordance with other United States pride festivals. Indy Pride Festival is the largest LGBT pride event in Indiana. Massachusetts Avenue, Indianapolis
The Mass Ave Cultural Arts District, colloquially known as Mass Ave, is one of seven designated cultural districts in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. The district centers on of its namesake Massachusetts Avenue, from its southern terminus at New York and Delaware streets to its northern terminus at Bellefontaine Street. The avenue is one of the four original diagonal streets included in Alexander Ralston's plan of 1821. Mass Ave also contains the Massachusetts Avenue Commercial District, a historic district included on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982. Today it lies at the heart of the city's arts district. It offers some of the city's most visible theaters and art galleries as well as a number of shops and eateries. Gentrification in the 1990s propelled the area from squalor to one of the city's more fashionable addresses. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1920 "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States". The ACLU works through litigation and lobbying, and has over 1,800,000 members as of July 2018, with an annual budget of over $300 million. Indianapolis City-County Council
The City-County Council of Indianapolis and Marion County is the legislative body of the combined government of the city of Indianapolis and the county of Marion in the state of Indiana. The council was established as part of the consolidation of city and county governments, enacted by Unigov on January 1, 1970. The council is composed of 25 members elected to four-year renewable terms, each representing an electoral district. The council is responsible for reviewing and adopting budgets and appropriations. Greg Ballard
Gregory Alan Ballard (born November 20, 1954) is an American politician, author, and businessman who served as the 48th mayor of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Marine Corps. On November 6, 2007, he defeated two-term incumbent Democratic Mayor Bart Peterson by 51% to 47%. It was described as one of the biggest upsets in the political history of Indiana. He was re-elected to the position in 2011 by the same margin. Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis, playing in the Eastern Conference in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The team was founded before the 2000 season began. The team is owned by Herb Simon, who also owns the Fever's NBA counterpart, the Indiana Pacers, and Simon Malls. The Fever has qualified for the WNBA Playoffs in 13 of its 21 seasons in Indiana. Some of the players who have helped define the history of the Fever include the American players Tamika Catchings, Katie Douglas, and Tully Bevilaqua from Australia. Layshia Renee Clarendon (born May 2, 1991) is an American professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. Clarendon is the first openly non-binary WNBA player, and the first active WNBA player to complete a top surgery. Jordan Pisey Windle is a Cambodian-born American Olympic diver. He is the first diver of Cambodian descent to compete in the Olympics. Early life Jordan was born in Sihanoukville, Cambodia on November 13, 1998. At the age of one, his biological parents died and he was placed in the Women and Children's Vocational Center at Chom Chao. Delferd Lynn Shores (born December 3, 1957) is an American film director and producer, television writer and producer, playwright and actor. Biography The first play Shores wrote was ''Cheatin which premiered in 1984 in Los Angeles at The MainStage Theatre. His second play ''Daddy's Dyin': Who's Got the Will?'' saw a 1987 debut in Los Angeles at Theatre/Theater, running twenty-two months to critical acclaim. The comedic play was adapted for the 1990 film of the same title. Shores wrote the screenplay and executive produced the feature. Perhaps Shores' best known play is his fourth, ''Sordid Lives'', which debuted in 1996 in Los Angeles. The comedy centered on the Texan Ingram family and touched on LGBT themes.
