Industrial And Commercial Panel
The Industrial and Commercial Panel ( ga, An Rolla Tionscail Agus Tráchtála) is one of five vocational panels which together elect 43 of the 60 members of Seanad Éireann, the upper house of the Oireachtas (the legislature of Ireland). The Industrial and Commercial Panel elects nine senators. Election Article 18 of the Constitution of Ireland provides that 43 of the 60 senators are to be elected from five vocational panels. The Industrial and Commercial Panel is defined in Article 18.7.1º(v) as "Industry and Commerce, including banking, finance, accountancy, engineering and architecture". The Seanad returning officer maintains a list of nominating bodies for each of the five panels. Candidates may be nominated either by four members of the Oireachtas or by a nominating body. Seanad Éireann (, ; "Senate of Ireland") is the upper house of the Oireachtas (the Irish legislature), which also comprises the President of Ireland and Dáil Éireann (the lower house). It is commonly called the Seanad or Senate and its members senators (''seanadóirÃ'' in Irish, singular: ''seanadóir''). Unlike Dáil Éireann, it is not directly elected but consists of a mixture of members chosen by various methods. Seán Goulding
Seán Goulding (1877 – 15 December 1959) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. A company director, he was a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1927 to 1937, then a senator from 1938 to 1954, serving as Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann from 1943 to 1948. From County Waterford, Goulding was elected at the September 1927 general election to the 6th Dáil as a TD for the Waterford constituency. He was re-elected at two further general elections until his defeat at the 1937 election to the 9th Dáil. He stood again at the 1938, 1943 and 1944 general elections, but never returned to the Dáil. After the loss of his Dáil seat in 1937, he stood in the subsequent elections to the 5th Seanad Éireann, winning a seat on the Industrial and Commercial Panel. Brian O'Rourke (politician)
Bernard Brian O'Rourke (3 November 1874 – c.1 July 1956) was an Irish politician and businessman from Inniskeen, County Monaghan. O'Rourke inherited a farm and corn mill outside Inniskeen and acquired a larger mill in Dundalk. He bought Belleek Pottery in 1918 and co-founded Arklow Pottery in 1934. Initially a supporter of the Irish Parliamentary Party (IPP), he was elected to Carrickmacross urban district council in 1899 and Monaghan County Council in 1905, and made a justice of the peace (JP) in 1906. He broke with the IPP when the Irish Volunteers split on the outbreak of World War I and IPP leader John Redmond advocated supporting the British war effort. For endorsing the 1916 Easter Rising, O'Rourke was interned and dismissed as a JP. During the Irish War of Independence he was a magistrate in the Dáil Courts. David John Madden (1880 – 31 July 1955) was an Irish Fine Gael politician, farmer and auctioneer. He was elected to Seanad Éireann in April 1938 by the Industrial and Commercial Panel. He was re-elected to the Seanad in July 1938, 1943 and 1944. He was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála (TD) for the Limerick West constituency at the 1948 general election. John MacLoughlin (8 September 1871 – 11 September 1943) was an Irish politician. Daniel Corkery (20 September 1883 – 23 April 1961) was an Irish politician and Commandant in the Irish Republican Army (IRA) during the Irish War of Independence. Revolutionary period From Macroom, County Cork, Corkery was served short terms of imprisonment in 1916 and 1917 for Irish Volunteers activity. Linda Mary MacWhinney (; 1 July 1888 – 5 June 1951) was an Irish nurse and Fianna Fáil politician. Early life Born in Cloonagh, Dromard, County Sligo, she was one of eight children born to Thomas and Catherine "Nora" (née Clarke) Kearns. From 1907, she studied and trained to be a nurse. She had not been interested in nationalism or republicanism prior to the Easter Rising and had intended to serve as a nurse in France during World War I until a chance meeting with Thomas MacDonagh changed her mind and radicalised her.
