Industrial Union (Finland)
The Industrial Union ( fi, Teollisuusliitto) is a trade union representing workers in light and heavy industries in Finland. The union was founded on 1 January 2018, when the Industrial Union TEAM merged with the Metalworkers' Union and the Wood and Allied Workers' Union. Like its predecessors, it affiliated to the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions. From its formation, it has been led by Riku Aalto, who was formerly president of the Metalworkers' Union. The Paperworkers' Union chose not to become part of the merger which formed the Industrial Federation, but Industrial Federation representatives stated that they hoped it would join within a few years. A trade union (labor union in American English), often simply referred to as a union, is an organization of workers intent on "maintaining or improving the conditions of their employment", ch. Industrial Union TEAM
The Industrial Union TEAM ( fi, Teollisuusalojen ammattiliitto, TEAM) was a trade union representing manufacturing and print workers in Finland. The Chemical Union had been keen to unite the various industrial union in Finland for several years, and opened negotiations with six other unions. The Metalworkers' Union withdrew, followed by all the others excepting the Media Union. At the start of 2010, the Chemical Union and Media Union merged, forming the Industrial Union TEAM. Like its predecessors, the union affiliated to the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions. The union was initially led by Timo Vallunta, former president of the Chemical Union. Metalworkers' Union
The Metalworkers' Union ( fi, Metallityöväen Liitto, Metalli) was a trade union representing workers in the metal industry in Finland. The first Metalworkers' Union in Finland was founded in 1899, but was banned in 1930. Later that year, a new Metalworkers' Union was founded by the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The union affiliated to the Finnish Federation of Trade Unions (SAK). Unlike many unions, it remained with the SAK in 1960, when supporters of the SDP formed the Finnish Trade Union Federation (SAJ). Members of Metalli who wished to join the SAJ formed two new unions: the Steel, Mining and Machine Shop Union, and the Union of Industrial Workshop and Power Workers. In 1969, the SAK and the SAJ merged, to form the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions. Metalli joined the new federation, and the two breakaway unions rejoined it. Wood And Allied Workers' Union
The Wood and Allied Workers' Union ( fi, Puu- ja erityisalojen liitto, PEL) was a trade union representing workers in the wood industry in Finland. The union was founded in 1993, when the Wood Workers' Union merged with the Rural Workers' Union. Like its predecessors, the union affiliated to the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions. By 1998, it had 51,455 members. In 2014, the union shortened its name, to become the Wood Union. Paperworkers' Union
The Paperworkers' Union ( fi, Paperiliitto) is a trade union representing workers in the paper industry, in Finland. History The union was established in 1906, on the initiative of the Tampere Paper Industry Workers' Union. Initially a successful organisation, it split in 1930 between supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and a communist-led group. The communist group was soon banned, so the SDP's Finnish Paper Industry Workers' Union viewed itself as the successor of the earlier union. The union affiliated to the Finnish Federation of Trade Unions, and then from 1969, to its successor, the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions. A global union federation (GUF) is an international federation of national trade unions organizing in specific industry sectors or occupational groups.
