West Lebanon, Indiana
West Lebanon is a town in Pike Township, Warren County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 723 at the 2010 census. History West Lebanon was laid out and platted in the fall of 1830 by Ebenezer Purviance, John G. Jemison and Andrew Fleming, and consisted of 64 lots. Originally named Lebanon, the name was changed to West Lebanon in 1869 when the town was incorporated, possibly in deference to the Boone County community of the same name which established its post office on December 15, 1832, just eleven days before their own. Not being close to any waterways, West Lebanon's early growth was relatively slow and for many years had no more than 20 families. However, with the completion of the Wabash Railroad line one mile north of town in 1856, the community's fortunes improved and led to most of the town relocating closer to the station. State Road 263 is a business route of State Road 63 which runs through West Lebanon in Warren County, covering a distance of about . It is an undivided two-lane surface road for its entire length. Route description At the south end, State Road 263 leaves State Road 63 less than a mile north of U.S. Route 136. It passes under the Vermilion Valley Railroad after about a quarter of a mile, and for the next several miles it runs northeast through wooded country, staying within a mile of the Wabash River to the east and passing through the defunct river town of Baltimore. It then leaves the river and strikes north toward the town of West Lebanon, passing through some hilly and wooded country as it ascends from the river. Covington, Indiana
Covington is a city in, and the county seat of, Fountain County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,645 at the 2010 census. History Fountain County was formed on April 1, 1826. Later that year, the county seat was established at Covington, and a two-story frame courthouse was built in 1827. The location of the county seat was a point of contention for some years, as Covington was not centrally located in the county. In 1831 an act was passed that called for the relocation of the county seat, but after further discussion it was decided that it should remain where it was. Eventually the coming of the railroads helped to alleviate the geographical concern. A brick courthouse was completed in 1833. Cayuga, Indiana
Cayuga is a town in Eugene Township, Vermillion County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,162 at the 2010 census. History When the town was laid out on September 20, 1827, it was called Eugene Station, though it was also called Osonimon after an Indian chief of that name. It was later renamed after the village of Cayuga and Cayuga Lake in the state of New York; an early settler named John Groenendyke had originally come from Cayuga County, New York, and moved to Vigo County in 1818, then in 1819 moved to the area that later became Vermillion County. The name is based on the Iroquois term ''Gwa-u-geh'', meaning "the place of taking out" (in terms of a portage). Local legend attributes the name to the sound made by the horn of a Ford Model T. State Road 234 exists in two sections in Indiana. The western portion begins at the Illinois border from a Vermilion County, Illinois, county road. It runs east from there to U.S. Route 136 (US 136) near Jamestown. Much of the route is a scenic, two-lane road with very tight turns. The primary access to Shades State Park is located along SR 234. State Road 71 (SR 71) is a north–south discontinuous state road in the west-central Indiana part of the US state of Indiana. The southern segment is completely within Vermillion County, while the northern segment is in Benton and Newton counties. The highway passes through mostly rural areas. The southern end of the southern segment is in Blanford at SR 163 before ending at SR 63 near Newport. Newport is a town in Vermillion Township, Vermillion County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 515 at the 2010 census. The town is the county seat of Vermillion County.
