State Road 341 in the U.S. state of Indiana is a north–south state highway in Fountain County in the west-central part of the state. Route description The road starts near the south edge of the county at State Road 234 just over a mile south of Wallace. It passes north through the town of Hillsboro, where it is concurrent with Main Street and U.S. Route 136, then crosses Interstate 74 just north of Hillsboro and continues through the towns of Mellott and Newtown, and terminates at State Road 28 east of Attica. Wallace, originally named Jacksonville, is a town located in Jackson Township, Fountain County, Indiana, United States. At the 2010 census, the town had a total population of 105. History Jacksonville, one of Fountain County's early settlements, was established by John Bowman and his father Henry in the early 1830s on land situated just north of Mill Creek and was named for Andrew Jackson. The town's name in informal speech was often shortened to "Jackville". The first settler at the site was Richard Williams who erected a cabin as early as 1826, several years before the town was laid out, with the first house erected after Jacksonville's platting belonging to William Guilliams. By the 1880s it contained about two dozen houses. Attica is a city in Logan Township, Fountain County, Indiana, United States. History Attica was laid out by George Hollingsworth and platted by David Stump in 1825. The completion of the Wabash and Erie Canal through the town in 1847 brought a considerable amount of growth to the area, and ended (in Attica's favor) a long-standing rivalry with the neighboring communities of Rob Roy, Williamsport and Covington. Fountain County lies in the western part of the U.S. state of Indiana on the east side of the Wabash River. The county was officially established in 1826 and was the 53rd in Indiana. State Road 234 exists in two sections in Indiana. The western portion begins at the Illinois border from a Vermilion County, Illinois, county road. It runs east from there to U.S. Route 136 (US 136) near Jamestown. Much of the route is a scenic, two-lane road with very tight turns. The primary access to Shades State Park is located along SR 234.
