Indiana's 1st Congressional District
Indiana's 1st congressional district is an electoral district for the U.S. Congress in Northwestern Indiana. The district is based in Gary and its surrounding suburbs and exurbs. It consists of all of Lake and Porter counties, as well as most of the western part La Porte County, on the border with Michigan. Redistricting passed by the Indiana General Assembly in 2011 shifted the district's boundaries, effective January 2013, to include all of Lake and Porter counties and the western and northwestern townships of La Porte County, while moving Benton, Jasper and Newton counties out of the district. The district is currently represented by Democrat Frank J. Mrvan. He was sworn in on January 3, 2021. The district's character is very different from the rest of Indiana. William Prince (Indiana)
William Prince (1772 – September 8, 1824) was a U.S. Representative from Indiana. Born in Ireland in 1772, Prince immigrated to the United States in 1796 and settled in Indiana. He studied law. He served as Commissioner for Gibson County, Indiana, and drew the winning lot to become the county seat's namesake in 1814. Prince served in the Indiana Territorial Council. He then served as territorial auditor. He served in the State senate in 1816. Prince also served as state circuit judge. He served as delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1816. He served as captain in the Battle of Tippecanoe. He served as member of the State house of representatives in 1821 and 1822. The 2020 United States presidential election was the 59th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. The Democratic ticket of former vice president Joe Biden and the junior U.S. senator from California Kamala Harris defeated the incumbent Republican president Donald Trump and incumbent vice president Mike Pence. The 2016 United States presidential election was the 58th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
