Indian General Election, 2009 (Bihar)
The 2009 Indian general election in Bihar were held for 40 seats with the state going to polls in the first four phases of the general elections. The major contenders in the state were the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Indian National Congress and the Fourth Front. NDA consisted of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) whereas the fourth front was constituted of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP). The results indicated the complete reversal of the last election, where the NDA won this state in a landslide securing 32 out of 40 seats. The victory is mostly credited to the work of Nitish Kumar and JD(U), and this is the only state where the NDA has had the most success since, they were defeated by Congress and allies, in all the other states, leading to their heavy losses for the NDA in the election. Nitish Kumar
Nitish Kumar (born 1 March 1951) is an Indian politician, who is serving as Chief Minister of Bihar since 22 February 2015, having previous held the office from 2005 to 2014 and for a short period in 2000. The leader of the Janata Dal (United), previously he has also served as a Union Minister as the Samata Party member. Kumar first entered politics as a member of the Janata Dal, becoming an MLA in 1985. A socialist, Kumar founded the Samata Party in 1994 along with George Fernandes. In 1996 he was elected to the Lok Sabha, and served as a Union Minister in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, with his party joining the National Democratic Alliance. In 2003 his party merged into the Janata Dal (United), and Kumar became its leader. In 2005, the NDA won a majority in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, and Kumar became chief minister heading a coalition with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Mangani Lal Mandal
Mangani Lal Mandal (born 1 July 1948) is an Indian politician from the Rashtriya Janata Dal party and a former Member of the Parliament of India representing Jhanjharpur constituency in the Lok Sabha. Hukmdev Narayan Yadav
Hukmdev Narayan Yadav (born 17 November 1939) is a politician from Bihar, who has been Union Minister of State. He is the recipient of Padma Bhushan India's third highest civilian award. He represented the Madhubani constituency of Bihar 1977, 1999, 2009, and 2014. He was with Socialist Party in 1960s and various faces of Janata Dal and its off-shoots in 1980s, but later he joined Bharatiya Janata Party. Yadav is known for his fiery speeches in the parliament. Madhubani Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 40 Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituencies in Bihar state in eastern India.
