Indian Cricket Team In Australia In 1947–48
The India national cricket team toured Australia in the 1947–48 season to play a five-match Test series against Australia. Australia won the series 4–0, with one match drawn. This was India's inaugural tour of Australia and it was also the first tour by a team representing the newly independent India. Independence had been finalised only two months before the tour began. As evident from the scoreline, the Australian team greatly outclassed the Indians, who had some good individual performances to their credit. However, they did not put up much resistance as a team, with their batting failing to make any impression on the Australians. The only silver lining for India in terms of match results was their two victories in the First Class Matches. Vijay Merchant
Vijay Singh Madhavji Merchant , real name Vijay Madhav Thackersey (12 October 1911 – 27 October 1987) was an Indian cricketer. A right-hand batter and occasional right-arm medium pace bowler, Merchant played first-class cricket for Bombay cricket team as well as 10 Test matches for India between 1929 and 1951. Behind his limited Test appearances, he dominated Indian domestic cricket – his batting average of 71.64 is the second highest first-class average in history, behind only that of Don Bradman. Hemu Adhikari
Colonel Hemchandra "Hemu" Ramachandra Adhikari (31 July 1919 – 25 October 2003) was an Indian cricketer, representing his country as both a player and a coach in a career that spanned three decades. Life and career A talented right-handed batsman and occasional leg spin bowler, he made his first-class cricket debut as a teenager before the outbreak of World War II in the 1936/37 domestic season. He immediately demonstrated his abilities on the local stage but due to the war, and his role in the Indian armed forces, his career was interrupted. Adhikari made his Test debut as a 28-year-old in 1947 on India's tour of Australia and immediately established himself as an important member of the squad, although his continued official role in the army restricted his availability for the team. Baroda Cricket Team
The Baroda cricket team is a domestic cricket team based in the city of Baroda. The home ground of the team is the Moti Bagh Stadium on the palace grounds. Southern Punjab Cricket Team (India)
The Southern Punjab cricket team was an Indian domestic team representing the southern part of the Indian state of Punjab during the time of the British Raj and later the southern part of its Indian successor, following the partition of India. History The team first played first-class cricket in 1926 against a touring Marylebone Cricket Club team. Southern Punjab was one of the teams that competed in the inaugural season of the Ranji Trophy in 1934-35, and it continued to contest the Ranji Trophy until 1951-52. It returned in 1959-60 and continued until 1967-68, after which it combined with Northern Punjab to form Punjab. Its final first-class match was a draw against Northern Punjab. Ranvirsinhji
Maharaj Shri Ranvirsinhji (7 October 1919 – 4 April 1962), a member of the Jamnagar royal family, played first-class cricket in India from 1936 to 1952. He toured Australia with the Indian team in 1947-48 but did not play Test cricket. Ranvirsinhji made his first-class debut in 1936–37 at the age of 17, and played in the Nawanagar team that won the Ranji Trophy final a few months later, along with his brother Indravijaysinhji and their cousin Yadvendrasinhji. In 1937-38 he made his highest score, 53, opening the batting for Nawanagar in an innings victory over Sind. He made 31 (top score) and 43 and took 6 for 84 when Nawanagar lost by an innings to Bombay in the Ranji Trophy in 1946–47. Kanwar Rai Singh
Kanwar Rai Singh (24 February 1922 – 12 November 1993) was an Indian cricketer who played in one Test match in 1948. A right-handed batsman, Rai Singh was a surprise selection for the Indian tour of Australia in 1947–48. During his career, which spanned from 1940 until 1961, Rai Singh scored 1,778 runs in first-class cricket at an average of 30.13, scoring four centuries and seven half-centuries. Chandu Sarwate
Chandrasekhar Trimbak Sarwate (; 22 July 1920 – 23 December 2003) was an Indian cricketer and fingerprint expert. He was an all-rounder who played nine Test matches for India between 1946 and 1951 with no success — his Test batting average was only 13.00, and his Test bowling average was 124.66. He bowled slow leg breaks. Career Sarwate had a long career in first-class cricket, spanning 32 years, during which he represented Central Provinces and Berar, Maharashtra, Hindus, Bombay, Holkar, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. Sarwate's most famous innings as a batsman came while playing for the touring Indian side against Surrey at the Oval in May 1946. Syed Mushtaq Ali
Syed Mushtaq Ali (; 17 December 1914 – 18 June 2005) was an Indian cricketer, a right-handed opening batsman who holds the distinction of scoring the first overseas Test century by an Indian player when he scored 112 against England at Old Trafford in 1936. He batted right-handed but was a slow left arm orthodox spin bowler. He bowled frequently enough in domestic matches to be classified as an all-rounder but only occasionally in test matches. Mushtaq Ali was noted for his graceful batting style and a flair which often cost him his wicket by being over-adventurous too soon in an innings. Career Mushtaq Ali was the discovery of C. K.
