Indian Refining Company
The Indian Refining Company was an American oil company in operation from the first decade of the 1900s to April 2, 1943. It was bought by the Texas Company in 1931. It had an oil refinery based in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Indian Refining patented the first "wax free" oil under the Havoline brand. The chemists at the Lawrenceville, Illinois refinery developed the wax free motor oil which led to an Indian Refining patent. The Texas Company (TEXACO) acquired Indian Refining in 1931 primarily to access the formulation for wax free motor oil, which was developed and is currently the standard for all conventional motor oils throughout the world. Texas Company
Texaco, Inc. ("The Texas Company") is an American oil brand owned and operated by Chevron Corporation. Its flagship product is its fuel "Texaco with Techron". It also owned the Havoline motor oil brand. Texaco was an independent company until its refining operations merged into Chevron, at which time most of its station franchises were divested to Shell plc through its American division. Texaco began as the "Texas Fuel Company", founded in 1902 in Beaumont, Texas, by Joseph S. Cullinan, Thomas J. Donoghue, and Arnold Schlaet upon the discovery of oil at Spindletop. The Texas Fuel Company was not set up to drill wells or to produce crude oil. Lawrenceville is a city in and the county seat of Lawrence County, Illinois, United States, located along the Embarras River. The population was 4,348 at the 2010 census. Lawrenceville is located in southeast Illinois, northwest of Vincennes, Indiana. American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) is an American trade association, founded in 1902 as the National Petroleum Association. It became the National Petroleum Refiners Association in 1961, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association in 1998 and became the AFPM in 2012.
