Indian Railway Medical Services
The Indian Railway Health Service (IRHS) is an organized central Group A civil service of the Government of India under Ministry of Railways consisting of doctors recruited by the Union Public Service Commission's(UPSC) Combined Medical Services Examination. It is an organized service like administrative services or engineering services. The officers of this service are responsible for providing comprehensive health care to the serving railway employees, retired railway employees and their dependents as well as other categories of staff such as contractors, vendors and licensed porters. The Indian Railway Medical Service (IRMS) has been renamed as Indian Railway Health Service (IRHS) from 15 January 2020 because of new introduction of Indian Railways Management Service(IRMS). Combined Medical Services Examination
The Combined Medical Services Examination or the CMS Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment as Medical Officer in various organisations such as the Indian Ordnance Factories, Indian Railways, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council functioning under the Government of India. The Notification for the examination is usually released in the month of April and examination is conducted in July. Successful candidates are admitted after an interview conducted by the UPSC for those having qualified the written examination. The All India Services Act, 1951, provides for creation of five All India Services, namely, all of the central engineering services, central health science services, central natural resources services and central public services. Indian Railways Organisational Structure
The Indian Railways are broadly organised from functional groups within the Indian Railway Service. India's rail system is managed at a regional level since Indian Railways have divided themselves into eighteen zonal railways.
