India At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
India competed in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Indian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Paralympic Games, Summer Paralympics since 1984 Summer Paralympics, 1984, though they made their official debut at the 1968 Summer Paralympics. This was India's most successful Paralympic season with 5 golds 8 silvers and 6 bronzes (total 19). Before this edition, India had won 12 medals (4 medals of each color) of all previous Paralympics appearances combined. Table tennis player Bhavina Patel won India's first olympics (Paralympic) medal in Table Tennis. Shooter Avani Lekhara scripted history as she became the first Indian to win a medal in Shooting in the Paralympics. She also became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal and become multiple medalist in Paralympics. The organisation was founded in 1992 as the ''Physically Handicapped Sports Federation of India''. History In 1992, M. Mahadeva along with others started an organization at national level for the promotion and development of sports for the physically challenged and deifferently-abled people, Physically Handicapped Sports Federation of India. Vinod Kumar (athlete)
Vinod Kumar (born 20 July 1980) is an Indian athlete who specializes in the discus throw. He participated in the men's discus throw at the 2020 Paralympics and won bronze but was later disqualified after being found not eligible to participate in the event. Kumar was banned from competition for two years after being found to have intentionally misrepresented his impairment in classification, resulting in his competing against more severely impaired athletes. The women's individual table tennis – Class 4 tournament at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo took place between 25 and 29 August 2021 at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. There were 280 qualified slots (174 male, 106 female) which competed in male and female events. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
