Indexi Award Winners
Indexi was a Bosnian and former Yugoslav rock band popular in Yugoslavia. It formed in 1962 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and disbanded in 2001 when singer Davorin Popović died. Some of their most notable songs are "Svijet u kome živim" and "Negdje u kraju, u zatišju" with lyrics by Želimir Altarac Čičak, "Plima", "Sve ove godine", "Sanjam" and "Bacila je sve niz rijeku", which was later covered by many other ex-Yugoslavian groups, notably Crvena jabuka. Indexi formed in 1962, and their name was derived from the "Indeks" which was a student's grade log. They began by making instrumental covers of popular hits, but in 1967 started composing. They were known as the "Pioneers of Psychedelic Rock", and were inspired by many bands like the Beatles, Yes, and The Guess Who. Želimir Altarac Čičak
Želimir Altarac "Čičak" (21 August 1947 – 26 March 2021) was a Bosnian rock promoter, poet, songwriter, music critic, and publicist. His pioneering work with various Sarajevo-based rock acts, in both creative and organizational capacity, has made him a well known behind-the-scenes figure on the country's music scene. Early life Widely known as Čičak ( burdock) for his curly hair, Altarac attended the First Sarajevo Gymnasium from 1961 until 1965, a period during which he grew increasingly infatuated with Western pop culture, specifically rock music coming from the United States and United Kingdom that had already been gaining a devoted audience among the youth of communist Yugoslavia. ''Indexi'' is the Bosnian music award. It given by the Indexi Award Direction and Indexi Award Programme Committee. The award was established in 2002 in Zenica by Josip Dujmović. The initial name of the award was ''Davorin'', honouring one of the most famous Bosnian pop/rock singers Davorin Popović from Indexi. In 2008, the award was renamed Indexi, after Davorin's band. Ranko Rihtman
Ranko Rihtman (Sarajevo, ) is Bosnian pianist, composer, arranger, and conductor. Education Ranko Rihtman attended Sarajevo Music Academy, where he graduated at the Department of Ethnomusicology and Conducting, followed by attendance at the Berklee College of Music, in Boston, USA, in 1982 and 1983, where he completed professor Herb Pomeroy's Jazz Composition and Arranging class. Career Since the 1960s, Rihtman played the organ and piano in several pop and rock bands, such as Čičci, Ambasadori, and most notably with Indexi, of whom he was a longtime member.
