Independiente Medellín (women)
Deportivo Independiente Medellín Femenino is a professional women's football club based in Medellín, Colombia. They are the women's football section of Independiente Medellín and they currently play in the Colombian Women's Football League, the top level women's football league in Colombia. The club was founded in 2019 in an alliance between Independiente Medellín and Formas Íntimas. Their crosstown rivals are Atlético Nacional with whom they contest El Clásico Paisa. The club plays their home matches at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot, although it plays some of its home matches at the Estadio Polideportivo Sur in Envigado and at the Estadio Metropolitano Ciudad de Itagüí in Itagüí. History On 21 June 2019, the men's football club Independiente Medellín and Formas Íntimas signed an alliance to play in the third season of the Colombian Women's Football League. Atanasio Girardot Sports Complex
Atanasio Girardot Sports Complex (officially ''Unidad Deportiva Atanasio Girardot'') is a sports complex located in Medellín, Colombia. The complex includes Estadio Atanasio Girardot, Medellín Sports Coliseum, Luis Alberto Villegas Stadium, and Alfonso Galvis Duque Stadium. Atanasio Girardot Stadium Estadio Atanasio Girardot (Atanasio Girardot Stadium) is currently used mostly for football matches by two teams, Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín, two of the most successful and popular football clubs from Colombia. The stadium was built in 1953 and was renovated for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup to its current capacity of 40,943. It is also the third largest stadium in the country behind Estadio Deportivo Cali and Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez. Itagüí
Itagüí () is a city of Colombia, located in the south of the Aburrá Valley in the Antioquia Department. It is part of The Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. Demographics The population at the 2005 census was 230,272. Its density is 17 km2. History Founded in 1743, Itagüí was declared a municipality in 1832. Its name comes some historians of an indigenous chief named ''Bitagüí''. Two of its most representative Diego Echavarría Misas and Eladio Vélez. There were two chapels in Itagüí in colonial times. One in the place of the Tablaza that had been owned by Bruno Saldarriaga, built thanks to the permission that the Bishop of Popayán Francisco José de Figueredo granted December 19, 1743.
