Candidates Brome-Missisquoi: Jacques-Antoine Normandin Jacques-Antoine Normandin (born June 17, 1951) was an activist with the Bloc Québécois in Pierrefonds—Dollard before running for office himself. In the 2008 provincial election, he claimed to be exempt from paying taxes by virtue of having renounced his citizenship. He advocated a tax exemption for other "dissidents" and a common law bar to compete with the official Bar of Quebec. His agent was later fined for not filing an election expenses report. He received 173 votes (0.57%), finishing sixth against Liberal Party incumbent Pierre Paradis. 2008 Quebec General Election
The 2008 Quebec general election was held in the Canada, Canadian Provinces and territories of Canada, province of Quebec on December 8, 2008. The Quebec Liberal Party, under incumbent Premier Jean Charest, was re-elected with a majority government, marking the first time since the 1950s (when the Union Nationale (Quebec), Union Nationale of Maurice Duplessis won four consecutive elections) that a party or leader was elected to a third consecutive mandate, and the first time for the Liberals since the 1930s, when Louis-Alexandre Taschereau was Premier. The 2008 election also marked the first time that Québec solidaire won a seat. Issues Charest called the election on November 5, saying he needed a "clear mandate" and a majority to handle the economic storm. André Drolet (born 1 June 1954) is a Canadian politician. Drolet was elected to represent the riding of Jean-Lesage in the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2008 provincial election. Jean-François Gosselin
Jean-François Gosselin (born April 17, 1975 in Quebec City, Quebec) is a politician from Quebec, Canada. He was an Action démocratique du Québec Member of the National Assembly for the electoral district of Jean-Lesage from 2007 to 2008. He is currently the leader of the opposition on Quebec City Council. He graduated from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York in 1999 where he obtained a bachelor and a master's degree in business administration. 2007 Quebec General Election
The 2007 Quebec general election was held in the Canadian province of Quebec on March 26, 2007 to elect members of the 38th National Assembly of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party led by Premier Jean Charest managed to win a plurality of seats, but were reduced to a minority government, Quebec's first in 129 years, since the 1878 general election. The Action démocratique du Québec, in a major breakthrough, became the official opposition. The Parti Québécois was relegated to third-party status for the first time since the 1973 election. The Liberals won their lowest share of the popular vote since Confederation, and the PQ with their 28.35% of the votes cast won their lowest share since 1973 and their second lowest ever (ahead of only the 23.06% attained in their initial election campaign in 1970). Shefford is a former provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. As of its final election, it included the cities of Granby and Waterloo. It was created for the 1867 election (and existed prior to that in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 2008. It disappeared in the 2012 election. 1998 Quebec General Election
The 1998 Quebec general election was held on November 30, 1998, to elect members of the National Assembly of the Province of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Parti Québécois, led by Premier Lucien Bouchard, won re-election, defeating the Quebec Liberal Party, led by Jean Charest. After the narrow defeat of the PQ's proposal for political independence for Quebec in an economic union with the rest of Canada in the 1995 Quebec referendum, PQ leader Jacques Parizeau resigned. In January 1996, Bouchard left federal politics, where he was leader of the Bloc Québécois in the House of Commons of Canada, to lead the Parti Québécois and become premier. Jean Charest had also left federal politics, where he had been leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada. Yves Séguin (born March 30, 1951 in Val-d'Or, Quebec) is a former Canadian politician in Quebec. He was first elected as the Quebec Liberal Party (QLP) member for Montmorency in 1985. He was the parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Revenue from 1985 to 1987. He was then made the Minister of Revenue himself in 1987. He was also made the Minister of Labour in 1988. Montmorency is a provincial electoral district in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. It comprises part of the Beauport borough of Quebec City and the municipality of Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada).
