Independent Amateur Hockey League
The Independent Amateur Hockey League (NAHL — lv, Neatkarīga amatieru hokeja līga) is the largest amateur ice hockey league in the Baltic States ( Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania). Located in Riga, Latvia. It unites more than 80 teams and about 2 400 players in 8 leagues (including 2 oldtimers leagues). History The modern history of amateur ice hockey began in 1996, when Latvian national ice hockey team returned to the top division of the Ice Hockey World Championship. Possibly this fact was very important in the further development of amateur hockey in Latvia. At the end of summer in 1996 a group of enthusiasts decided to unite the unorganised groups of amateur hockey players and organize their 1st ice hockey championship for amateur teams. Oleg Znarok
Oleg Valerievich Znarok (russian: Олег Валерьевич Знарок, lv, Oļegs Znaroks; born 2 January 1963) is a Soviet-Latvian professional ice hockey player. In 2022, he was the head coach of Ak Bars Kazan in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and consultant of the Russia men's national ice hockey team. Internationally, he guided Russia to gold, silver, two bronze performances in the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 IIHF World Championships, respectively, and to a gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Znarok coached the Latvian national team at five IIHF World Championships, two IIHF World U-20 Championships and one IIHF World U-18 Championship. He had coached Dynamo Moscow to back to back Gagarin Cup championships, in the 2011–12 and 2012–13 seasons, and a Continental Cup in 2013–14 season. It was founded on 2 January 1992, following shortly after the restoration of independence of the country. LMT ( lv, Latvijas Mobilais Telefons, 'Latvian Mobile Telephone') is a mobile GSM/UMTS/ LTE operator in Latvia. LMT was founded on January 2, 1992. It was the first mobile network operator in the country and established itself as an operator for the NMT system, but in January 1995 it started operating a GSM network alongside the existing NMT network. Based on market research, it requested for its license to be expanded to permit use of the 1800 MHz range which was allowed in the summer of 1999. Parex Bank was a Latvian bank founded in 1992 by Valērijs Kargins and as a privately owned full-service banking company in Riga, Latvia that was very dominant in currency exchange in the 1990s. It had local and international clients in both the West and Russia with close ties to the Tambovskaya Russian mafia in St Petersburg and Vladimir Putin. As the second largest bank in Latvia in 2008, its failure and state takeover was one of the major events of the 2008–2010 Latvian financial crisis. Aleksandrs Kerčs (sometimes anglicised as Alexander Kerch, russian: Александр Ярославович Керч, ''Aleksandr Jaroslavovich Kerch''; born March 16, 1967) is a retired Soviet and Latvian professional ice hockey left winger who played five games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Edmonton Oilers.
