Independence Day (Kyrgyzstan)
The Independence Day of Kyrgyzstan ( ky, Кыргыз Республикасынын көз карандысыздыгынын күнү, russian: День Независимости Кыргызстана) is the main state holiday in Kyrgyzstan. It is celebrated in Kyrgyzstan annually on August 31, the anniversary of its declaration of independence in 1991. History On August 31, 1991, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan adopted a law on the "Declaration on State Independence of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan". Because of this, the Kyrgyz Republic was declared an independent state. Kyrgyzstan officially adhered to the principles of international law, and cooperation between peoples. In 1993, the first constitution was adopted, which has changed several times in 20 years. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyz Republic ( ky, Кыргыз Республикасынын Куралдуу Күчтөрүнүн Башкы штабынын, ''Kyrgyz Respublikasynyn Kuralduu Küçtörünün Başky ştabynyn'') is the military staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Chief of the General Staff is appointed by the President of Kyrgyzstan, who is the supreme commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The current Chief of the General Staff is Major General Erlis Terdikbayev. From 2014-2021, the Chief of the General Staff was the paramount leader of the armed forces, just second to the commander in chief. Almazbek Sharshen uluu Atambayev ( ky, Алмазбек Шаршен уулу Атамбаев, translit=Almazbek Şarşen uulu Atambayev; born 17 September 1956) is a Kyrgyz politician who served as the President of Kyrgyzstan from 1 December 2011 to 24 November 2017.
