''Phase II'' is the second studio album by American singer Prince Royce; it was released on April 10, 2012, by Top Stop Music. The 12-track album (with two acoustic bonus tracks) saw Royce incorporate a variety of music styles to his work, including bachata, Latin pop, R&B and mariachi. ''Phase II'' contains songs in both English and Spanish, with melodies atypical to traditional bachata music, which had been regarded as Royce's main music genre since the release of his eponymous debut studio album in 2010. Three singles were released to promote the album in 2012. Prince Royce
Geoffrey Royce Rojas (born May 11, 1989), known professionally as Prince Royce, is an American singer. At an early age, Royce took an interest in music, and in his teenage years began experimenting with music and writing poetry. By age nineteen, Royce met Andrés Hidalgo, who became his manager. Hidalgo later introduced Royce to record producer Sergio George, who immediately signed him to his label after hearing three of his demos. In March 2010, Royce released his eponymous debut studio album, which generated two commercially successful singles, " Stand by Me" and "Corazón Sin Cara". In the United States, both songs reached number-one on the ''Billboard'' Tropical Songs chart, while "Corazón Sin Cara" reached number-one on the ''Billboard'' Hot Latin Songs chart. The 13th Annual Latin Grammy Awards was held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was the fifth time the awards was held at this venue and in Las Vegas. It also marks the last year in the Latin Recording Academy's contract where the Mandalay Bay Events Center hosted. It is unknown if the awards will continue to be held at this location beyond 2012. Recordings must have been released between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012 in order to be eligible for the 13th Latin Grammy Awards. Nominations were announced on September 25, 2012. Juan Luis Guerra led the nominations field with six; Jesse & Joy earned five nods; Ricardo Arjona, Edgar Barrera, Juanes, Carla Morrison, Arturo Sandoval, Ivete Sangalo, and Caetano Veloso each received four nominations. "Las Cosas Pequeñas" (English: "The Little Things") is a Latin pop and bachata song by American recording artist Prince Royce. It was written by Royce, Anthony López and Sergio George, who also produced it. It released as the first single from his second studio album, Phase II. It premiered on Latin radio on January 10, 2012 and was digitally released the following day by Top Stop Music. Royce has said that the song is about the little things that don't cost a lot and have great sentimental worth. The music video for the song, which was filmed at Central Park in New York City, was directed by Carlos Pérez of Elastic People. Since 1994, Nielsen BDS was used to measure the songs on the chart. On the week ending October 20, 2012, ''Billboard'' changed the methodology on the Hot Latin Songs to include digital downloads and streaming in addition to airplay from all radio stations in the United States, as opposed to just Spanish-language radio stations. Bachata (music)
Bachata is a genre of music that originated in the Dominican Republic in the 20th century. It is a fusion of southwestern European influences, mainly Spanish guitar music, with indigenous Taino and Sub Saharan African musical elements, representative of the cultural diversity of the Dominican population. The first recorded compositions of bachata was done by José Manuel Calderón in 1962 ("Borracho de amor") from the Dominican Republic. Bachata originates from bolero and son (and later, from the mid-1980s, merengue). The original term used to name the genre was ''amargue'' ("bitterness", "bitter music" or "blues music"), until the mood-neutral term ''bachata'' became popular. Mariachi (, , ) is a genre of regional Mexican music that dates back to at least the 18th century, evolving over time in the countryside of various regions of western Mexico. The usual mariachi group today consists of as many as eight violins, two trumpets and at least one guitar, including a high-pitched vihuela and an acoustic bass guitar called a guitarrón, and all players taking turns singing lead and doing backup vocals. From the 19th to 20th century, migrations from rural areas into Guadalajara, along with the Mexican government's cultural promotion gradually re-labeled it as ''son'' style, with its alternative name of ''mariachi'' becoming used for the 'urban' form. History Sergio George was known for producing albums for salsa musicians during his work with RMM Records & Video during the 1990s. José Manuel Figueroa Figueroa (April 8, 1951 – July 13, 2015), known professionally as Joan Sebastian (), was a Mexican singer-songwriter. He composed more than 1,000 songs, including compositions for artists such as Bronco, Vicente Fernández, Lucero, Pepe Aguilar, and Rocío Dúrcal. The first several years of his career were primarily focused on Latin pop songs, but later focused primarily on Regional Mexican music, specifically banda, mariachi, and norteño. Throughout his career, he also recorded various country songs in Spanish. Sebastian was awarded seven Latin Grammy Awards and five Grammy Awards, making him the most awarded Mexican performer in Grammy history.
