Bison Film Company, also known as 101 Bison Film Company, is an American film studio established in 1909 and disestablished in 1917. It partnered with Miller Brothers 101 Ranch to lease 20,000 acres to build a Western town set and an Indian village and make silent films with stars including Tom Mix, Buck Jones, Hoot Gibson and Will Rogers. Hoot Gibson
Edmund Richard "Hoot" Gibson (August 6, 1892 – August 23, 1962) was an American rodeo champion, film actor, film director, and producer. While acting and stunt work began as a sideline to Gibson's focus on rodeo, he successfully transitioned from silent films to become a leading performer in Hollywood's growing cowboy film industry. During the period between World War I and World War II, he was second only to cowboy film legend Tom Mix as a box office draw. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Henry Alexander MacRae (August 29, 1876 – October 2, 1944) was a Canadians, Canadian film director, film producer, producer, and screenwriter during the silent film, silent era, working on many film Serial (film), serials for Universal Studios. One of a number of Canadian pioneers in early Hollywood, MacRae was credited with many innovations in film production, including artificial light for interiors, the wind machine, double exposures and shooting at night. Richard Stanton (October 8, 1876 – May 22, 1956) was an American actor and director of the silent era. He appeared in 68 films between 1911 and 1916. He also directed 57 films between 1914 and 1925. He was born in Iowa and died in Los Angeles, California. Stanton was described as a "handsome, musical fellow", but was also a capable pugilist, demonstrating his boxing skills to two other fighters he worked with in a film. Phyllis Gordon
Phyllis Gordon (October 17, 1889 – October 16, 1964) was an American actress. She appeared in 50 silent era and sound films between 1911 and 1941. She was born in Suffolk, Virginia, and died one day before her 75th birthday in Sonoma, California. Gordon was once notably photographed walking a pet cheetah on a London shopping street. She also shocked people at a restaurant in Davenport, Iowa, when they realized that she had a marmoset in her handbag. Early years From the time she was 5 until she was 13, Gordon lived in a convent. "Then," she said, "the money gave out, and I had to go to work." When she was 13, Gordon helped to herd cattle in Oklahoma. In a 1911 interview, she said: "I rode the range astride with the cowboys, curried horses, washed and ironed and did manual labor for a living."
