In the kingdom of oil and millions ( az, Neft və milyonlar səltənətində) – is an art film of 1916, shot by film-director Boris Svetlov basing on the motifs of I.Musabeyov’s narrative of the same name. It is considered the first art film in the history of Azerbaijan. Plot The poor widow (Yuliya Orlitskaya), living near the city of Baku, brings income to her family by serving others. The mother gives her son to madrasah. But soon he was expelled from there. A desperate woman arranges her son to work next to the merchant Hasan (Vladimir Viazemsky). Several years later, Jalil's mother dies. Jalil returns home. Jalil's poor house and a piece of land were next to the property of the rich Lutfeli bey (Hussein Arablinski). Huseyn Arablinski
Huseyn Arablinski ( az, Hüseyn Ərəblinski), born Huseynbala Mammad oghlu Khalafov (1881, Baku – 17 March 1919, Baku), was an Azerbaijani actor. Life and career Born to a poor family, Huseyn Arablinski lost his father at a young age. He was sent by his mother to a religious school. Soon not being able to pay for it, young Huseyn had to drop out. However, with the help of Habib bey Mahmudbeyov, a local teacher who made it possible for children from poor families to attend school, Arablinski was admitted to the 3rd Russian-Muslim School. Mahmudbeyov was also the one who roused young Arablinski's interest in acting. One of the theatres agreed to have Mahmudbeyov's students act out incidental and minor characters. Khananda
A khananda ( az, xanəndə ; fa, خواننده; alternative spellings in English: khanende, khanande, khanandeh) is a name generally given to singers of mugham, an Culture of Azerbaijan, Azeri folk music genre. The word is of Persian origin and means "singer". When performing traditional mugham, a khananda is accompanied by a trio of musicians who play the tar (lute), tar, the kamancheh and the daf (tambourine). Often the khananda is the daf-player. Origins and development The exact origins of the art of khanandas have not been studied thoroughly however it is likely that it emerged during the urbanization in the Middle Ages, medieval epoch. In the growing cities, khanandas would perform at the events organized by the nobility, on weddings and fairs, in caravanserais and tea houses. Jabbar Garyaghdioglu
Jabbar Garyagdioglu or Garyaghdyoglu ( az, Cabbar Qaryağdıoğlu pronounced ) (31 March 1861 – 20 April 1944) was an Azerbaijani folk singer (khananda). He is known as the first khananda to perform mughamats in the Azeri language. He mostly sang in Azerbaijani and Persian. He was widely known both as a khanende and as a composer who performed both folk songs and his own song compositions, he was the author of new texts - tesnifs. His song "Baku" enjoyed great popularity in the 1930s-1940s. Jabbar Karjagdyoglu was also known outside the Caucasus. The art of the singer was admired by Uzeir Hajibeyov and Fedor Shalyapin, Sergei Yesenin and Bulbul, Reingold Glier. Absheron District
Absheron District () is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the east of the country and belongs to the Absheron-Khizi Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Khizi, Gobustan, Baku, Hajigabul, Salyan, and the city of Sumgait. Its capital and largest city is Khyrdalan. As of 2020, the district had a population of 214,100. Although the district shares the same name as the Absheron Peninsula, the area covered by the district is not conterminous, being further west and mostly inland.
