Initiated in 1991, the databas ...'' gave the album a mixed review, writing that the "six-song EP ..sometimes blends the bands' divergent styles into a harmonious hybrid, and other times falls victim to stylistic clashes." He particularly singled out the track "Central Heating" as a "noisy, acquired taste". Mark Richardson of '' Pitchfork'' called the pairing of the bands "a little odd" and the resulting album "strange and probably pointless in the long run", but wrote that it "does make for a relatively intriguing listen." Tortoise (band)
Tortoise is an American post-rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1990. The band incorporates krautrock, dub, minimal music, electronica and jazz into their music, a combination sometimes termed "post-rock". Tortoise have been consistently credited for the rise of the post-rock movement in the 1990s. History 1990s The group's origins lie in the late 1980s pairing of Doug McCombs (bassist with Eleventh Dream Day) and drummer John Herndon, who initially wanted to establish themselves as a freelance rhythm section (like reggae legends Sly and Robbie). The idea did not come to fruition, but their interest in grooving rhythms, as well as their recording studio knowledge led to partnerships with drummer John McEntire and bassist Bundy K. Brown (both formerly of Bastro and Gastr Del Sol) joining, followed by percussionist Dan Bitney. In The Fishtank
In the Fishtank was a series of EPs released by Konkurrent, an independent music distributor in the Netherlands. For the project, Konkurrent invited one or two bands to record and gave them two days studio time. The first four releases were recorded by individual bands, but eight of the last ten of them were the result of two bands (three in one case) teaming up to record. There were plans for more according to their website, but no new releases have come since ITF 15 in 2009. Tortoises () are reptiles of the family Testudinidae of the order Testudines (Latin: ''tortoise''). Like other turtles, tortoises have a shell to protect from predation and other threats. The shell in tortoises is generally hard, and like other members of the suborder Cryptodira, they retract their necks and heads directly backward into the shell to protect them. The Ex (band)
The Ex are an underground band from the Netherlands that formed in 1979 at the height of the original punk explosion. Initially known as an anarcho-punk band, they have since released over 20 full-length albums exploring a wide variety of genres, blending punk rock with free jazz and folk music from all over the world. Biography The Ex's music has undergone significant evolution over the years from their beginnings as a punk band. Founded by singer Jos Kley (better known as G.W. Sok), guitarist Terrie Hessels, drummer Geurt and bassist René, the band debuted with a song titled "Stupid Americans" on the ''Utreg-Punx'' vinyl 7" compilation released by Rock Against records in Rotterdam.
