Imperial Reservoir (Texas)
Imperial Reservoir is a reservoir in Pecos County, Texas, south of the Pecos River and four miles south of Grandfalls. The reservoir covers approximately 1,530 surface acres and has a capacity of 8,500 acre-feet. It is fed by Imperial Ditch (taking water from the Pecos River approximately 16 miles to the northwest), and discharges into the Imperial Canal. The reservoir was constructed around 1912 to provide irrigation water to the canal and to promote land sales. Grandfalls is a town in Ward County, Texas, United States. It was named for its location near the "grand falls" of the Pecos River, located roughly to the west. Early settlers were attracted to the Grandfalls area in the late 1880s by the steady supply of water flowing in the Pecos River. Its population was 360 at the 2010 census. State Highway 18 (SH 18) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that runs from Fort Stockton in western Texas to the Texas-New Mexico state line between Kermit and Jal, New Mexico.
