Imperial Football Club
The Imperial Football Club, nicknamed the Blues, is an Australian rules football club in Murray Bridge, South Australia. It is one of seven clubs that compete in the River Murray Football League (RMFL). Its colours consist of navy and light blues with a white IFC logo. History The Imperial Football Club was formed in 1931 after the Murray Bridge Rovers were split into two separate clubs. The Rambler Football Club shared the same oval for 35 years and were the arch rival of the Blues. In 1966 Imperials moved to Johnstone Park after decided the club needed its own ground and clubrooms. Imperials have grown to become one of the most successful clubs in its league, winning 22 premierships since their foundation in 1931. River Murray Football League
The River Murray Football League is an Australian rules football competition based in the Murray Bridge region of South Australia, Australia. It is an affiliated member of the South Australian National Football League. History The competition was founded in 1931 with the foundation clubs Imperials, Ramblers and Mypolonga. Traditionally the 2 Murray Bridge clubs, Imperials and Ramblers, have had a fierce rivalry, and both have had their fair share of success over the years. Tailem Bend and Jervois, who are both based in smaller townships, are proud clubs with fine traditions and premiership success to go with it. Mannum and Mypolonga both broke premiership droughts in recent decades, however both clubs have struggled in the last 15 years to convert multiple grand final appearances into premierships. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Murray Bridge (formerly Mobilong and Edwards Crossing) is a city in the Australian state of South Australia, located east-southeast of the state's capital city, Adelaide, and north of the town of Meningie. Martin Mattner
Martin Mattner (born 6 August 1982) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Sydney Swans and Adelaide Crows in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was traded to Sydney from the Crows in October 2007 in exchange for draft pick number 28. Mattner grew up in a small town called Ki Ki, which is 150 kilometres south-east of Adelaide. In the year he was elevated off Adelaide's rookie list (2002), Mattner was having to travel up to Adelaide twice a week to train and play football for Sturt. Prior to joining Sydney, he was Adelaide's leading tackler for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. In the 2006 season, Mattner missed out on two games due to a calf injury. He retired midway through the 2013 AFL season, succumbing to his ongoing hip injury. He took up a coaching role with the Sydney Swans as a development coach until the end of the 2015 season. Chad Wingard
Chad Jordan Wingard (born 29 July 1993) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted to Port Adelaide with the sixth selection in the 2011 AFL Draft from the Sturt Football Club in the South Australian Football League (SANFL). Early life Wingard was born in Murray Bridge, South Australia. He went to Unity College Murray bridge. His father Trevor is part of the Indigenous Australian Kaurna people and his mother Julie is Irish. Julie works at an emergency accommodation centre. Chad has an older brother and a younger brother, as well as five younger foster siblings.
