Imparja National News
''Imparja National News'' was an Australian regional television news program broadcast on Imparja Television. History Imparja introduced a local news service (primarily covering the Alice Springs area) into its nightly simulcast of ''National Nine News'' in 1990. Subsequently, the bulletin expanded into a full half-hour program incorporating local, national and international news. The program was directed at Indigenous and non-Indigenous viewers, but found a wide audience among Australians interested in Indigenous Australian issues, as such topics are rarely covered in the mainstream Australia media. In 2005, ''Imparja National News'' was cancelled in anticipation of the network's license area being merged with that of Darwin. Imparja Television (IMP) is an independent Australian television station servicing over , across six states and territories: Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. It is based in Alice Springs, and is controlled by Aboriginal people through ownership by Imparja Television Pty Ltd. ''Imparja'' is the anglicised form of the pronunciation of the Arrernte word ''Impatye'', meaning footprints. The word was used to represent that Imparja Television aims to service Arrernte people wherever they may live, from Mutitjulu to King's Canyon to Alice Springs to Tennant Creek and beyond. They describe their range as a footprint. Broadcasting began on 2 January 1988. ''Nine News'' (stylised ''9News'') is the national news service of the Nine Network in Australia. Its flagship program is the hour-long 6:00 pm state bulletin, produced by Nine's owned-and-operated stations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Darwin. National bulletins also air on weekday mornings, weekend afternoons and most nights of the week after 10:30pm. Kerrynne Liddle
Kerrynne Liddle is an Australian politician and the first Indigenous federal member of parliament from South Australia. She is an Arrente woman and member of the Liberal Party. She was elected to the Senate on the party's ticket in South Australia at the 2022 federal election, to a term beginning on 1 July 2022. She was a journalist and corporate manager before entering politics. Early life Liddle was born and raised in Alice Springs. She is one of five children born to Arrernte parents Geoff and Jean Liddle; her father was a construction worker and her mother was a nurse but later worked supporting high school students.
