''For other record labels named Impact Records, see Impact Records (other)'' Impact was a New Zealand record label which released records by, among others, Erana Clark, Ray Columbus, Allison Durbin, Gerry Merito, Lew Pryme, Bunny Walters, Ray Woolf, Larry's Rebels and Golden Harvest. The label started releasing records in 1966 and continued throughout the 1970s. Background The idea of the label was conceived by Russell Clark while he was still at school. It was founded in 1966 by Clark and Benny Levin. Ray Columbus, who had just left Zodiac Records, was the first artist to be signed. According to the edition of 1 January 1966 of '' Billboard'', after Columbus, two other acts were to have releases. Larry's Rebels
Larry's Rebels were a garage rock band, formed in Ponsonby, New Zealand, in 1964. The band had a relatively stable lineup, and had several nationally charting singles in New Zealand and Australia. Their musical genres ranged from blues rock to psychedelic pop, with lead vocalist Larry Morris having a versatile vocal range. The band later merged British Invasion and American musical influences into their repertoire. History Beginnings In 1962, classmates of the Seddon Tech institute, John Williams (lead guitar), Dennis "Nooky" Stott ( drums), Harry Leki ( bass guitar), and Terry Rouse ( keyboards, rhythm guitar) formed a band known as the Young Ones. AudioCulture is a New Zealand On Air funded online project billed as the "''Noisy Library of New Zealand Music''". Working with artists, historians and music industry people, the website tells the story of nearly 100 years of New Zealand popular music culture, from the first local recordings in the 1920s to digital streaming. The website launched on 31 May 2013, with 250 published pages and since then has been growing steadily with new pages and stories added regularly. Organisation The site was conceived and founded by New Zealand music industry historian and pioneer Simon Grigg. Grigg first conceived an online database of New Zealand music in the late 2000s and spent much of the next few years seeking funding and gathering support from the music industry in New Zealand. Bunny Te Kokiri Miha Waahi Walters (31 May 1953 – 14 December 2016) was a New Zealand singer who had a number of New Zealand hits during the 1970s. He is best known for the hits "Brandy" and "Take the Money and Run". Background Of Ngāi Te Rangi descent, Walters was born and raised in Katikati, a town on the North Island of New Zealand. Career In 1969, he competed against Tui Fox at Joe Brown's at the Rotorua Soundshell during the ''Search for Stars'' event held there. Fox was singing similar material to Walters. Fox won the final with Walters coming in second. His first single, titled "Just Out of Reach", was released in 1969. He then released "It's Been Too Long" and "Can't Keep You Out of My Heart".
