Immaculate Heart Of Mary Church (North Little Rock, Arkansas)
The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church is a historic Roman Catholic church in northern Pulaski County, Arkansas. It is located off Arkansas Highway 365 on Blue Hill (Jasna Gora) in Marche, north of North Little Rock. History In 1878, Father Anthony Jaworski, a Polish priest from the Holy Ghost Fathers came to Marche. He led the efforts to establish a parish and build the first church. The first structure was a small wooden chapel built on a large hill. The new parish was named the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the hill was named Jasna Gora or "Blue Hill" after the shrine in Poland. In 1896, a larger church was built and served the parish until it was destroyed by fire. It was replaced by the current church building in 1932. Pulaski County is located in the U.S. state of Arkansas with a population of 399,125, making it the most populous county in Arkansas. Arkansas Highway 365 (AR 365 and Hwy. 365) is a north–south state highway in Central Arkansas. The route of runs from US 65B/ US 79B in Pine Bluff north through Little Rock to US 65B/ AR 60 in Conway. The route is a redesignation of former U.S. Route 65, which has since been rerouted onto various Interstate highways through the area. Portions of Highway 365 in Jefferson County are former alignments of the Dollarway Road, which was the longest paved concrete road upon completion in 1913. Marche (sometimes also called Warren) is an unincorporated community in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. It lies north of Little Rock. It is not a census-designated place. History Marche traces its roots back to an attempt by Judge Liberty Bartlett to establish a settlement in 1872. The settlement, which would have been named Bartlett Springs, did not succeed, and the Little Rock and Fort Smith Railroad acquired the property and named it Warren Station. A plan to turn the area into a resort for residents of Little Rock had failed by 1877. The parcel of land was subsequently purchased by Count Timothy von Choinski, a Polish nobleman with plans to settle the land and set up farms for Polish immigrants.
