Imitation Of Christ (film)
''Imitation of Christ'' is a film shot and directed by Andy Warhol in 1967. Summary The title for this film comes from the ''De imitatione Christi'', a spiritual guide written in the fifteenth century by Dutch mystic/author Thomas à Kempis (1390–1471). The film itself is a realistic dramatic comedy about a handsome young man called Son, silent and moody, who spends much time in his bedroom with the family maid, who feeds him corn flakes, strokes his hair, and reads to him from the ''Imitatione Christi''. Elsewhere in the family home, the young man's mother and father lie in bed and argue over Son, trying to analyze what's wrong with him, while, at the same time, admitting their physical attraction toward him, and lamenting over their own sad lives. Son also has angry arguments there in his home with his abrasive girlfriend, over minor matters. Andy Warhol (; born Andrew Warhola Jr.; August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American visual artist, film director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising, and celebrity culture that flourished by the 1960s, and span a variety of media, including painting, silkscreening, photography, film, and sculpture. Four Stars (1967 Film)
''Four Stars'' (also known as ''****'') is a 1967 avant-garde film by Andy Warhol, actually consisting of 25 hours of film. In typical Warhol fashion of the period, each reel of the film is 35 minutes long, or 1200 ft. in length, and is shot in sync-sound. The film's title is a pun on the rating system used by critics to rank films, with "four stars" being the highest rating. Overview As opposed to Warhol's earlier sound films during this period, such as ''Vinyl'', made in 1965, in which the camera, once turned on, was never stopped until the film ran out in one continuous take, ''Four Stars'' uses what critic Gene Youngblood dubbed "strobe cuts", created by turning the camera on and off during shooting, causing several overexposed or "whited-out" frames, to appear in the completed film, and an accompanying burst of sound on the film's soundtrack. Vincent Fremont (born 1950) is an American art magazine publishing executive, documentary director and producer, the onetime manager of Andy Warhol's studio The Factory, and a co-founder and former co-head of the Andy Warhol Foundation as was proscribed for in the famous pop Artist's will. He was both the director and co- producer of ''Pie in the Sky: The Brigid Berlin Story'' a biopic on the Warhol superstar Brigid Berlin. He was also an associate producer of the 1989 film Slaves of New York adapted from the short story collection Tama Janowitz of the same bame. In 2016 Fremont was named CEO of ARTnews. He stepped down from the executive position in 2017 but stayed on as an advisor to the company. Andrea Feldman (April 1, 1948 – August 8, 1972) was an American actress and Warhol superstar. She committed suicide in 1972. Career Andrea Feldman was a native New Yorker. She attended Quintano's School for Young Professionals, a high school for the performing arts. She starred in three Warhol films; ''Imitation of Christ'', ''Trash'' and ''Heat''. A regular in the back room of Max's Kansas City, she pioneered a performance which she called "Showtime", in which she performed a striptease on the round table, at the center of the room. She became known for her dependence on drugs, particularly amphetamines. Feldman was featured in a 1970 documentary called ''Groupies'', where she referred to herself by a nickname given to her by the Warhol crowd; Andrea "Whips" Feldman. Patrick Tilden "Pat" Close (June 1, 1948 – February 15, 1988) was a former American child actor who later appeared in the 1967 Andy Warhol film, ''Imitation of Christ''. Career Close began his career at the age of 11 when he was discovered while appearing in a stage production of ''Auntie Mame'' in Hollywood. He made his film debut as a young Elliot Roosevelt in 1960 in the biographical film ''Sunrise at Campobello''. For the remainder of the decade, he guest starred on various television series.
