Imelda Munster
Imelda Munster (born 24 February 1968) is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Louth constituency since the 2016 general election. She was elected to Louth County Council representing the Drogheda East local electoral area following the 2004 local elections and was re-elected in 2009 to both Drogheda Borough Council and Louth County Council. She successfully contested the Louth constituency at 2016 general election, receiving 8,829 first preference votes (13.1%) and was re-elected at the 2020 general election receiving 17,203 first preference votes (24.34%). A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). It is the equivalent of terms such as ''Member of Parliament'' (MP) or '' Member of Congress'' used in other countries. The official translation of the term is "Deputy to the Dáil", although a more literal translation is "Assembly Delegate". Overview For electoral purposes, the Republic of Ireland is divided into areas known as constituencies, each of which elects three, four, or five TDs. The 2009 Irish local elections were held in all the counties, cities and towns of the Republic of Ireland on Friday, 5 June 2009, on the same day as the European Parliament election and two by-elections ( Dublin South and Dublin Central). This is a list of the members elected to the 32nd Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (legislature) of Ireland. These TDs (members of parliament) were elected at the 2016 general election on 26 February. That general election took place throughout the state to elect 158 members of Dáil Éireann, a reduction of 8 from the prior number of 166. The next Irish general election to Dáil Éireann, the lower house of Ireland's parliament, the Oireachtas, will be held on or before March 2025, to elect between 171 and 181 TDs across Dáil constituencies of between 3 and 5 seats. A Taoiseach with a mandate to form a government was not nominated by the current Dáil when it first met on 20 February 2020 after the 2020 general election. 2020 Irish General Election
The 2020 Irish general election took place on Saturday 8 February, to elect the 33rd Dáil, the lower house of Ireland's parliament. The election was called following the dissolution of the 32nd Dáil by the president, at the request of the Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, on 14 January 2020. The members, Teachtaí Dála (TDs), were elected by single transferable vote in multi-seat constituencies. It was the first election since 1918 to be held on a weekend. The election was an unprecedented three-way race, with the three largest parties each winning a share of the vote between 20% and 25%. 2004 Irish Local Elections
The 2004 Irish local elections were held in all the counties, cities and towns of Ireland on Friday, 11 June 2004, on the same day as the European elections and referendum on the twenty-seventh amendment of the constitution. Polling was delayed until 19 June 2004 in County Roscommon, due to the sudden death of Councillor Gerry Donnelly. Turnout was the highest for 20 years at around 60%, helped by the extra publicity of the referendum. The result was a major setback for Fianna Fáil, which saw its share of the vote drop by 7 percentage points from its 1999 result to only 32%, losing 20% of its council seats. The party lost its majority on Clare County Council for the first time in 70 years, and fell behind Fine Gael in Galway, Limerick and Waterford city councils. The 2016 Irish general election took place on Friday 26 February to elect 158 Teachtaí Dála (TDs) across 40 constituencies to Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, Ireland's parliament. The 31st Dáil was dissolved by President Michael D. Higgins on 3 February, at the request of Taoiseach Enda Kenny. There was a reduction of eight seats under the Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Act 2013. Louth County Council ( ga, Comhairle Contae Lú) is the authority responsible for local government in County Louth, Ireland. As a county council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001.
