Imagination (Belouis Some Song)
"Imagination" is a song by British musician Belouis Some, from his 1985 debut album '' Some People''. Upon its first release as a single in the UK in 1985, the song only managed to chart at No. 50, but a re-release proved more successful, hitting the top 20 and peaking at No. 17 on the UK Singles Chart in February 1986. In the U.S., the song reached No. 88 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in May 1985. On 10 October 1994, a remix of the song by British electronica band The Beloved (Jon and Helena Marsh) was released as a single on Some's own label Some Music LTD. It reached number 95 in the UK Singles Chart in March 1995. In February 2023, producer Lee Rose with Belouis Some released a tech house version of "Imagination" on Deevu Records. Belouis Some (born Neville Keighley; 12 December 1959) is a British singer, songwriter and musician. He had UK and Worldwide hits in the 1980s with " Some People", "Imagination" and " Round, Round" from the John Hughes film ''Pretty in Pink''. "Some People" and "Imagination" charted on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 1985. Career 1980s Neville Keighley grew up in Forest Hill, South London. He started playing guitar and writing songs while at school (Dulwich Prep London and Royal Russell School). After leaving school in 1978, Keighley spent several years developing his songwriting, recording demos and playing small gigs. Keighley's first release was "Lose It to You" on The Cue Record Label in 1981 under the name Nevil Rowe. This record was produced at Crescent Studios, Bath, by David Lord and Darren Hatch, later of the Italo disco group My Mine. Sampling (music)
In sound and music, sampling is the reuse of a portion (or sample) of a sound recording in another recording. Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sounds or entire bars of music, and may be layered, equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, looped, or otherwise manipulated. They are usually integrated using hardware ( samplers) or software such as digital audio workstations. A process similar to sampling originated in the 1940s with '' musique concrète'', experimental music created by splicing and looping tape. The mid-20th century saw the introduction of keyboard instruments that played sounds recorded on tape, such as the Mellotron. ''Let's Dance'' is the 15th studio album by English singer-songwriter David Bowie, released on 14 April 1983 through EMI America Records. After the release of '' Scary Monsters'' (1980), Bowie began a period of numerous musical collaborations and film appearances. By 1982, he left RCA Records out of dissatisfaction and signed with EMI America. Wanting a fresh start, he chose Nile Rodgers of the band Chic to co-produce his next record.
