Iloilo Golf And Country Club
The Iloilo Golf and Country Club, formerly and informally known as the Santa Barbara Golf Course in Brgy. San Sebastian, Santa Barbara, Iloilo on 35 hectares of plain and rolling hills. It is considered the oldest golf course in Southeast Asia. It was built in 1907 by a group of Irish expatriates building the Panay line of Panay Railways, also completed in 1907. It was opened to the public in 1913. The original course was a crude 9-hole course. A club followed the establishment of the course, which was initially only open to expats but by 1920 Filipinos were allowed to join including Tomas Confesor and Eugenio Lopez, Sr. Eugenio is an Italian and Spanish masculine given name deriving from the Greek language, Greek 'wiktionary:Eugene, Eugene'. Santa Barbara, officially the Municipality of Santa Barbara ( hil, Banwa sang Santa Barbara, tgl, Bayan ng Santa Barbara), is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. Panay Railways
Panay Railways Inc. is a government-owned and controlled corporation of the Philippines headquartered in La Paz, Iloilo City on the island of Panay. It is a subsidiary of Phividec Railways Inc. of the Philippine Veterans Investment Development Corporation (Philvedec). The railway currently doesn't operate any trains but it leases the property that it owns and the revenue is used to defray the personnel and administrative costs incurred from looking after its assets. Fernando Hofileña Lopez Sr. (April 13, 1904May 26, 1993) was a Filipino statesman. A member of the influential Lopez family of Iloilo, he served as Vice President of the Philippines, vice president of the Philippines for three terms – under Elpidio Quirino (1949–1953) for the Liberal Party (Philippines), Liberals and Ferdinand Marcos (1965–1969 and 1969–1972) for the Nacionalista Party, Nacionalistas.
