Illawarra Rugby League
The Illawarra Rugby League is a rugby league competition in Wollongong, NSW. It is one of the oldest rugby league competitions in Australia, founded in 1911 with five clubs (Dapto, Helensburgh, Mount Keira, Unanderra and Wollongong). The area provides a nursery of juniors for the Illawarra Steelers and St George Illawarra Dragons. The season is contested by seven teams and concludes with a finals series involving the top four teams. History Only the Northern parts of the Illawarra have traditionally been included in this competition, with teams further south playing in Group 7. However, Shellharbour's decision in 2009 to field a team in the NSW Cup was coupled with a decision to play in the Illawarra Rugby League as well, blurring the boundary between the two competitions. Collegians
Collegians are an Australian rugby league football team based in Wollongong. The club are a part of Country Rugby League and compete in the Illawarra Rugby League premiership. Originally known as CBC Old Boys, the Club was founded in 1933. The Brothers Club was then admitted to the Illawarra 1st Grade competition in 1938. As of 2013 Collegians will call the new Lysaghts Oval, Figtree home. Collegians wear red and black jerseys and have won 9 minor premierships and 12 premierships. The Collegians Leagues club is a thriving club in North Wollongong. Cronulla-Caringbah Sharks
Cronulla-Caringbah Junior Rugby League Football Club is a junior and amateur rugby league football club that was formed in 1952 and competes in the Cronulla-Sutherland District Rugby Football League; the junior side of the club was formed in 1963 to coincide with the formation of the Cronulla-Sutherland District Rugby Football League, CSDJRFL. The club is based out of Woolooware where its headquarters are located and usually draws on the large majority of its junior players from that suburb and the surrounding areas of Caringbah, New South Wales, Caringbah and Cronulla. The University of Wollongong Titans (or UOW Titans) is an Australian rugby league football team based in Wollongong. The club are a part of Country Rugby League and competes in the Illawarra Rugby League premiership. The club plays out of University Oval, Wollongong. The Titans wear red, navy and white jerseys. The Shellharbour City Sharks are a Country Rugby League club founded in 1920 located on the South Coast of NSW that compete in the South Coast Group 7 competition. Club Info History Shellharbour City RLFC has a 113-year history, originally existed as a rugby union club, before switching to rugby league in 1920. The club have won five first-grade premierships in total, as well as over 30 reserve, third, and under-18 premierships. The club's inaugural first grade premiership was in 1939. The Kiama Knights are an Australian rugby league football team based in Kiama, a coastal town of the Illawarra and South Coast regions. The club was formed in 1914 as one of the founding members of South Coast Rugby League, and continue to participate in this league's local competition. History On 30 May 1914, Kiama kicked off the inaugural South Coast Rugby League competition with a 6–3 home win at Kiama Showground against nearest neighbour and soon to be biggest rivals, Gerringong. Gerringong, however, would go on to take out the premiership final with an 11–10 victory at the Kiama Showground, a match that would charge a sixpence to attend. Kiama won their first premiership in August 1925, defeating Kangaroo Valley in a final. In 1930, Kiama merged with Bombo and they won the title that year. The Jamberoo Superoos are an Australian rugby league football team based in Jamberoo, a country town of the Illawarra region. The club is a part of Country Rugby League and have competed in the South Coast first grade competition since its inception in 1914. History The Jamberoo Superoos started life like many other clubs in the area as a Rugby Union team, with players deciding to make the switch in 1913. Eight local clubs created the first South Coast tournament in 1914 of which Jamberoo was apart. The Superoos first ever game was against Kangaroo Valley on 30 May 1914. Jamberoo won the game 3-0. The following year the side won the first of their eight premierships before the tournament's hiatus due to World War I. The Western Suburbs Red Devils (Wests Illawarra, Wests Wollongong, Wests Red Devils or simply Wests Devils) are an Australian rugby league football team based in Figtree.
