Turkish ( , ), also referred to as Turkish of Turkey (''Türkiye Türkçesi''), is the most widely spoken of the Turkic languages, with around 80 to 90 million speakers. It is the national language of Turkey and Northern Cyprus. Significant smaller groups of Turkish speakers also exist in Iraq, Syria, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Greece, the Caucasus, and other parts of Europe and Central Asia. Cyprus has requested the European Union to add Turkish as an official language, even though Turkey is not a member state. Turkish is the 13th most spoken language in the world. İlker Avcıbay
İlker Avcıbay (born 1 October 1978) is a Turkish former footballer who played as a goalkeeper, and current goalkeeping coach of Giresunspor. Club career Avcıbay moved to Elazığspor in 2000. He has spent his entire career in Turkey, playing for Denizlispor, Altay, Antalyaspor, Adana Demirspor and Konyaspor. He joined Manisaspor on loan during the second half of the 2008-09 season, before making the move permanent at the end of the season. In 2012, he joined Kasımpaşa, and was used mainly as a backup to Andreas Isaksson. Over the two years he was there, he made five appearances for the club; two in the Süper Lig and three in the Turkish Cup. In 2014, he joined Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor, and was appointed the club captain upon his arrival. Mehmet Ä°lker BaÅŸbuÄŸ (; born 29 April 1943) was the 26th Chief of the General Staff of Turkey. He was charged with contravention of Articles 309, 310, and 311 of the Turkish Penal Code. In August 2013, he was convicted on charges of "establishing and leading a terrorist organization" and "attempting to destroy the Turkish government or attempting to partially or completely prevent its functioning" and sentenced to life imprisonment as part of the Ergenekon trials. However, the Constitutional Court of Turkey determined that BaÅŸbuÄŸ's legal rights were violated and overturned his conviction; he was released on 7 March 2014.
