''The Tunnel Under the World'' (original Italian title ''Il tunnel sotto il mondo'') is a 1969 low-budget Italian science-fiction film directed and edited by Luigi Cozzi inspired by Frederik Pohl's novella of the same name. The screenplay was written by Tito Monego and Alfredo Castelli, best known as the creator of the comic book series ''Martin Mystère''. It was the directorial debut of a 21-year-old Luigi Cozzi. It began as a film school project and eventually wound up becoming a full-length feature film. Cozzi's work on this film brought him to the attention of famed horror film director Dario Argento and jump-started his career. is a fictional character featured in video games and related media released by Nintendo. Created by Japanese video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, Luigi is portrayed as the younger fraternal twin brother and sidekick of Mario, Nintendo's mascot. Alfredo Castelli (born 26 June 1947) is an Italian comic book artist and writer. Biography Born in Milan, Castelli began his comic book career at an early age, creating the strip '' Scheletrino'', a humor series for Italian comic book ''Diabolik'', when he was only 16 years old. In 1966, with Paolo Sala, he created ''Comics Club 104'', the first Italian fanzine dedicated to comics. A year later Castelli started writing scripts for several Italian comic books, including '' Pedrito el Drito'' and ''Piccola Eva'' published by Universo, '' Cucciolo'' and '' Tiramolla'' for Edizioni Alpe, and ''Topolino'' for Mondadori. Frederik George Pohl Jr. (; November 26, 1919 – September 2, 2013) was an American science-fiction writer, editor, and fan, with a career spanning nearly 75 years—from his first published work, the 1937 poem "Elegy to a Dead Satellite: Luna", to the 2011 novel ''All the Lives He Led''. From about 1959 until 1969, Pohl edited '' Galaxy'' and its sister magazine '' If''; the latter won three successive annual Hugo Awards as the year's best professional magazine. "The Tunnel under the World" is a science fiction short story by American writer Frederik Pohl. It was first published in 1955 in '' Galaxy'' magazine. It has often been anthologized, most notably in '' The Golden Age of Science Fiction'', edited by Kingsley Amis (1981). Plot Guy and Mary Burckhardt wake up in their house in Tylerton on June 15, having both had terrible nightmares, but they cannot recall the events of their dreams. Guy dismisses the dream and goes to work as usual, the downtown offices of Contro Chemicals, which operates a highly automated and robot-staffed petrochemicals plant. But something is not right; he is surrounded everywhere by loud and all-pervasive advertising jingles for everything from cigarettes to freezers.
