''The Sun Also Shines at Night'' ( it, Il sole anche di notte, and also known as ''Night Sun'') is an Italian film directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani in 1990. It was screened out of competition at the 1990 Cannes Film Festival. The plot is based on Leo Tolstoy's 1911 posthumously published short story "Father Sergius". The court of Czar Nicholas I is replaced by that of Charles III of Spain when he was still Charles VII of Naples. All of the original Russian locations are replaced by ones in southern Italy. Paolo And Vittorio Taviani
Paolo Taviani (; born 8 November 1931) and Vittorio Taviani (; 20 September 1929 – 15 April 2018), collectively referred to as the Taviani brothers, were Italian film directors and screenwriters who collaborated on film productions. At the Cannes Film Festival, the Taviani brothers won the ''Palme d'Or'' and the FIPRESCI prize for ''Padre Padrone'' in 1977 and the ''Grand Prix (Cannes Film Festival), Grand Prix du Jury'' for ''La notte di San Lorenzo'' (''The Night of the Shooting Stars'', 1982). In 2012 they won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival with ''Caesar Must Die''. Vittorio Taviani died on 15 April 2018 at the age of 88. Maria Pamela Villoresi (born 1 January 1957) is an Italian theatre, cinema and television actress. She has performed in more than 100 theatrical productions and in more than 30 films. Life and career The daughter of a cloth merchant of Prato and of a German mother, Pamela Villoresi began her artistic career following the acting lessons at the Teatro Metastasio in Prato. In 1975 Giorgio Strehler called her to be part of the theater company he started, Piccolo Teatro di Milano.
