Il Mattatore
''Love and Larceny'' (in Italian, ''Il mattatore'', "The Showman") is a 1960 Italian comedy film directed by Dino Risi. It was entered into the 10th Berlin International Film Festival. Plot Gerardo is an aspiring actor, trying unsuccessfully to cross over from comedy to tragedy. Due to his ability to mimic dialects of Italy, he is involved in a scam concocted by Lallo against a rich cloth-merchant. His inexperience resulted in he is the only one to be arrested and sentenced to several months in prison. There he encounters a vast array of petty criminals, devoted primarily to scams of various kinds. He befriends Chinotto, a con man for whom the doors of the prisons are like "revolving doors of a large hotel." Dino Risi
Dino Risi (23 December 1916 – 7 June 2008) was an Italian film director. With Mario Monicelli, Luigi Comencini, Nanni Loy and Ettore Scola, he was one of the masters of ''commedia all'italiana''. Biography Risi was born in Milan. He had an older brother, Fernando, a cinematographer, and a younger brother, Nelo Risi, Nelo (1920–2015), a director and writer. Linda Sini (13 February 1924 – 5 February 1999) was an Italian film actress. She made 75 appearances between 1950 and 1979 and several appearances after this, mostly in film. Debuting in '' Sigillo rosso'' in 1950, she went on to star in films such as Luigi Zampa's comedy '' Anni ruggenti'' (1962), and the James Bond spy spoofs ''002 operazione Luna'' and '' A 001, operazione Giamaica'' (1965). Luigi Pavese
Luigi Pavese (25 October 1897 – 13 December 1969) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Born in Asti, Pavese started his career in 1916 working as a silent film actor at 19 years of age. He then began his theatrical debut in 1921 and eventually worked his way up to becoming a film actor by the 1930s. He appeared in more than 170 films between 1916 and 1969. By the time World War II ended, Pavese's popularity as an actor increased. He often portrayed characters with certain professions such as clerks, lawyers, soldiers, officers and notaries in comedy films and made frequent collaborations with other actors such as Totò, Aldo Fabrizi, Walter Chiari, Alberto Sordi, including his younger brother Nino Pavese.
