''Il figlio della sepolta viva'' is a 1974 Italian drama film directed by Luciano Ercoli. Based on the novel with the same name written by Carolina Invernizio, it is part of the Invernizio's revival occurred in the early 1970s. In this adaptation Ercoli emphasized the gothic horror elements of the melodramatic plot. Luciano Ercoli
Luciano Ercoli (October 19, 1929 – March 15, 2015) was an Italian film director, screenwriter, producer and unit production manager. Ercoli's career spanned approximately two decades before his retirement in the late 1970s, and saw him direct several films in the giallo genre, as well producing several Spaghetti Westerns. Ercoli was married to Spanish actress Nieves Navarro, who has appeared in several of the films he worked on. Life and career Ercoli was born in Rome, Italy, on October 19, 1929. His first film credit was as an assistant director for the 1955 film '' La risaia'', directed by Raffaello Matarazzo. Ercoli then acted as a film producer on several titles throughout the 1960s, before making his directorial début in 1970, helming the giallo film '' Le foto proibite di una signora per bene'', which he also produced and edited. Gianni Cavina (9 December 1940 – 26 March 2022) was an Italian film actor. He appeared in more than 40 films from 1968 to 2022. Born in Bologna, Cavina trained as a stage actor at the Teatro Stabile di Bologna, under the direction of Franco Parenti. He made his film debut in the 1968 horror ''Balsamus, l'uomo di Satana'', directed by Pupi Avati, with whom he had a long collaboration, starring in many of his films. Carolina Maria Margarita Invernizio (28 March 1851 - 27 November 1916), better known just as Carolina Invenizio, was an Italian novelist. She had a large popular success between late 1800s until her death. Biography Early life Invenizio was born in Voghera, the daughter of an official of the Kingdom of Sardinia. She long claimed her date of birth as 1858, but in 1983 after extensive research in the municipal registers, her birth year was eventually determined to be 1851. In 1865 she moved with her family to Florence, where she studied at the Istituto Magistrale. Career Invenizio made her writing debut in 1876, with the short story ''Un autore drammatico''.
