Ihering's Snake
Ihering's snake (''Lioheterophis iheringi)'' is a species of snake in the subfamily Dipsadinae of the family Colubridae. The species is endemic to Brazil. It is the only species in the monotypic genus ''Lioheterophis''. Etymology The specific name, ''iheringi'', is in honor of German-Brazilian zoologist Rudolpho Teodoro Gaspar Wilhelm von Ihering. Geographic range ''L. iheringi'' is found in northeastern Brazil, in the Brazilian state of Paraíba. Habitat The preferred natural habitat of ''L. iheringi'' is shrubland. Description ''L. iheringi'' is a small species of snake. The holotype, a female, has a total length of , which includes a tail length of . It has smooth dorsal scales without apical pits. Afrânio Do Amaral
Afrânio Pompílio Gastos do Amaral (1 December 1894 in Belém – 29 November 1982 in São Paulo) was a Brazilian herpetologist. As a youngster, he collected snakes for Augusto Emilio Goeldi (1859-1917). He studied medicine in Salvador, Bahia, later finding employment at the Instituto Butantan in São Paulo. Here, his work involved research and production of anti-venom serum. In 1921 he succeeded Vital Brazil (1865-1950) as director of the Instituto Butantan. Shrubland, scrubland, scrub, brush, or bush is a plant community characterized by vegetation dominated by shrubs, often also including grasses, herbs, and geophytes. Shrubland may either occur naturally or be the result of human activity. Roberto Donoso-Barros (October 5, 1921 – August 2, 1975) was a Chilean botanist, naturalist, and herpetologist. Early life and education Donoso-Barros was born in Santiago, Chile. He attended the University of Chile in Santiago, earning his M.D. from the school in 1947. Career Donoso-Barros joined the faculty of the University of Chile in 1954. In 1965, he became a professor at the University of Concepción. He also worked at the Universidad de Oriente in Venezuela, and at the Smithsonian Institution in the United States.
