Owan East is a Local Government Areas of Nigeria, Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. The headquarters is in the town of Afuze. The Owan East Local Government Area comprises 69 towns/villages made up of eight clans (Emai, Igue, Ihievbe, Ikao, Ivbi-Mion, Ive-Ada-Obi, Otuo and Uokha). Owan-East is bordered in the north by Akoko Edo, Akoko-Edo LGA, in the east by Etsako West, Etsako-West LGA, at the west is Ekiti State, and at the southwest by Owan West, Owan-West LGA, while in the South are Esan Central LGA and Uhunmwonde LGA. Afenmai
Afenmai (Afemai), or Yekhee, is an Edoid language spoken in Edo State, Nigeria by Afenmai people. Not all speakers recognize the name "Yekhee"; some use the district name ''Etsako''. Previously the name used by British colonial administration was Kukuruku, supposedly after a battle cry "ku-ku-ruku", now considered derogatory. Afenmai is unusual in reportedly having a voiceless tapped fricative as the "tense" equivalent of the "lax" voiced tap (compare 'hat' and 'louse'Laver (1994) ''Principles of Phonetics'', p. 263.), though is other descriptions it is described simply as a fricative and analyzed as the "lax" equivalent of the "tense" voiceless stop .
