The Church of Saint Anthony (Portuguese language, Portuguese: ''Igreja de Santo Antônio'') is a Catholic temple located in Patriarca Square, in the center of the Brazilian São Paulo, city of São Paulo. Established in 1592, the current church was completed between 1899 and 1919. It housed the Franciscans, Franciscan Order in the 17th century and was subordinated to the Brotherhood of Our Lady of the Rosary of White Men in the 18th century. It is a historic monument of the state and the oldest remaining church in the city. The interior of the church preserves important testimonies of the art produced in São Paulo during the Colonial Brazil, colonial period. During the restoration work in 2005, the ceiling of the high Altar (Catholic Church), altar revealed sixteenth-century mural paintings of high technical and artistic quality. Church And Convent Of Saint Francis (São Paulo)
The Church and Convent of Saint Francis was a religious institution installed in the town of São Paulo during colonial Brazil. In the 19th century, the convent was converted into a Law School. The Church of the Wounds of the Seraphic Father Saint Francis, built by the Secular Franciscan Order, is next to it. The ensemble formed by the Law School and the two churches has great historical value and is situated in Largo de São Francisco, in the Historic Center of São Paulo. History In 1639, the friars of the Franciscan Order came to São Paulo from Bahia and initially settled in the Church of Saint Anthony. However, the place was considered unhealthy and, after a request to the City Council in 1642, the friars moved to a plot of land located on one of the edges of the hill where the town was founded.
