The Ignyte Awards are an annual literary award for the best science fiction, fantasy, and horror works and achievements of the previous year. Established in 2020 by writers L. D. Lewis and Suzan Palumbo as an off-shoot of '' FIYAH Literary Magazine'', the awards aim to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the speculative fiction Speculative fiction is a term that has been used with a variety of (sometimes contradictory) meanings. Darcie Little Badger
Darcie Little Badger (born 1987) is an author and an Earth scientist. As an author, she specializes in speculative fiction, especially horror, science fiction and fantasy. Further, as a Lipan Apache, she develops her stories with Apache characters and themes. She has also added her voice to Indigenous Futurisms, a movement among Native artists and authors to write science fiction from their historical and cultural perspectives. At the same time, some of her works feature characters who reconfirm the presence and importance of LGBTQ+ community-members. ''Emergency Skin'' is a science-fiction novelette written by N. K. Jemisin. The story was first published by Amazon Original Stories as part of the ''Forward'' short fiction collection in September 2019. The story was well received, and it was awarded a Hugo Award, an Audie Award (for the audiobook), and an Ignyte Award in 2020. Plot The unnamed protagonist lives on an exoplanet colony that was founded when the collapse of life on Earth (called Tellus in the story) was deemed inevitable. Tochi Onyebuchi (born October 4, 1987) is a Nigerian American science fiction and fantasy writer and former civil rights lawyer. ''Riot Baby'' is a science fiction novella written by Nigerian-American author Tochi Onyebuchi published in 2020. Plot Ella Jackson is a young girl with clairvoyance and telekinetic powers, which she calls her "Thing". Her younger brother Kevin “Kev” is born during the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. Ella’s powers grow as she ages; she has seizure-like episodes that cause furniture to fly around and harm nearby onlookers. After almost accidentally killing her mother, Ella disappears. Amal El-Mohtar
Amal El-Mohtar (born 13 December 1984) is a Canadian poet and writer of speculative fiction. She has published short fiction, poetry, essays and reviews, and has edited the fantastic poetry quarterly magazine ''Goblin Fruit'' since 2006. El-Mohtar began reviewing science fiction and fantasy books for the ''New York Times Book Review'' in February 2018. She has worked as a creative writing instructor at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. In 2018 she also served as a host on Brandon Sanderson's creative writing podcast ''Writing Excuses'' for Season 13. Max Gladstone (born May 28, 1984) is an American fantasy author. He is best known for his 2012 debut novel ''Three Parts Dead'', which is part of ''The Craft Sequence'', his urban fantasy serial ''Bookburners'', and for co-writing ''This Is How You Lose the Time War''. Gladstone is a graduate of Yale University, where he studied Chinese.
