''If Marriage Fails'' is a 1925 American silent drama film directed by John Ince and written by C. Gardner Sullivan. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Eleanor prefers the company of the unpopular Gene Deering to that of her wealthy husband, Joe Woodbury, who has fallen in love with the fortune teller Nadia. Becoming jealous, Eleanor tells Nadia that she is about to become a mother, and Nadia promises that she will not see Joe again. Eleanor and Deering are picked up following a roadhouse raid by Nadia and Dr. Mallini, who attends Eleanor when she is slightly injured. The doctor tells Nadia that Eleanor has lied about any approaching motherhood. Joe learns of the roadhouse affair, divorces Eleanor, and wins Nadia as a wife. Jacqueline Medura Logan (November 30, 1902 – April 4, 1983) was an American actress and silent film star. Logan was a WAMPAS Baby Star of 1922. Early life Logan was born in Corsicana, Texas, on November 30, 1902, the only child to Charles A. Logan and Marian Logan. Her father was an architect and her mother, who was born to a French mother and Irish father, was briefly an opera singer and later gave vocal lessons. Her childhood was spent in El Paso, Colorado and Scottsbluff, Nebraska where she briefly worked as a journalist for the ''Scottsbluff Republican''. Stage career and Broadway Logan traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for her health and acted in stock theater there. While there she took a course in journalism from Ford Frick, who later became commissioner of Major League Baseball. Biography Born in Bordeaux, she appeared in films in her native country, particularly shorts, from 1908 and 1910, and then she appeared in U.S. films, starting with a few film shorts in 1917 and features including more than 60 films between 1919 and 1937, primarily as a supporting player, with several uncredited smaller roles. A heavy and short woman of 5 feet, 4 inches (163 cm), she died aged 51 from a heart attack in Hollywood, California. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." Cissy Fitzgerald
Cissy Fitzgerald (born Mary Kate Kipping; 1 February 1873 – 10 May 1941) was an English-American vaudeville actress, dancer, and singer who appeared in numerous silent and sound films. Fitzgerald acted in a popular ''Gaiety Girl'' show beginning in 1894 and was filmed in the role in 1896 in a self-titled short film shot by Thomas Edison's film company. She did not appear in films again until 1914 where she signed with the Vitagraph company and was quite popular in feature films and her own series of ''Cissy'' short films. Very little of Fitzgerald's silent material survives except her comic backup role in the 1928 Lon Chaney vehicle ''Laugh, Clown, Laugh''. Fitzgerald claimed to have been the first woman in motion pictures, on 50 feet of film at the Edison labs in New Jersey in 1896.
