The name ''Jávrre'': (Lule Sami) or ''jávri'' (Northern Sami) is used as a suffix for larger lakes.) is a large lake on the border of the three municipalities of Alta, Kautokeino, and Karasjok in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The lake lies on the Finnmarksvidda plateau about northwest of the village of Karasjok, about northeast of the village of Masi, and about southeast of the town of Alta. The lake is the largest in the county and has a length of over from north to south. The lake has a maximum depth of and an average depth of , making it a characteristic Baltic Shield lake. Alta, Norway
( se, Áltá ; fkv, Alattio; fi, Alattio) is the most populated municipality in Finnmark in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Alta. Some of the main villages in the municipality include Kåfjord, Komagfjord, Kvenvik, Langfjordbotn, Leirbotn, Rafsbotn, Talvik, and Tverrelvdalen. Finnmarksvidda ( sme, Finnmárkkoduottar; en, Finnmark plateau/highland) is Norway's largest plateau, with an area greater than . The plateau lies about above sea level. Approximately 36% of Finnmark lies on the Finnmarksvidda. The village is located along both sides of the Karasjohka river, just west of the Norway-Finland border. Masi, Norway
or or is a village in Kautokeino Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The village is located along the river Kautokeinoelva, about south of the town of Alta (town), Alta and about north of the village of Kautokeino (village), Kautokeino. The village is made up predominantly of Sami people, and both the Sami and Norwegian names of the village ("Máze" and "Masi") are officially recognized. Since the 17th century, the village has been the site of Masi Church. The present church building was built after World War II to replace the previous church which the Germans had burned down. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Norwegian government considered building a dam on the local river for the proposed Alta Hydroelectric Power Station which would have flooded the village.
