Idman Azerbaijan TV ( az, İdman Azərbaycan TV, "Sport Azerbaijan TV") is a state media, state-controlled television channel in Azerbaijan. It began broadcasting from Baku on 1 January 2009 and primarily airs live sporting events and sport-related programming. The channel is owned by the Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting Closed Joint-stock company, Joint-stock Company ( az, Azərbaycan Televiziya və Radio Verilişləri Qapalı Səhmdar Cəmiyyəti, links=no), of which the Government of Azerbaijan is the only shareholder. This company also owns the channels AzTV and Medeniyyet TV, Mədəniyyət TV ''(Culture TV)''. Idman Azerbaijan TV channel, satellite and internet broadcasts are partially interrupted due to international sports rights. It is valid in terrestrial and cable broadcasts in Azerbaijan. It is the oldest television channel in the country, having first broadcast from Baku on 14 February 1956 in what was then the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union. Azerspace-1/Africasat-1a', is Azerbaijan's first satellite in space. Built by Orbital Sciences Corporation, it was launched by Ariane 5 into orbit on February 7, 2013 from Kourou in French Guiana at orbital positions 46° east. The satellite covers Europe and a significant part of Asia and Africa. It is operated by the Azerbaijani company Azercosmos and has transmission capabilities for TV, radio broadcasting and the internet. The satellite has an anticipated service life of 15 years. Basic Interoperable Scrambling System, usually known as BISS, is a satellite signal scrambling system developed by the European Broadcasting Union and a consortium of hardware manufacturers. Prior to its development, "''ad hoc''" or "occasional use" satellite news feeds were transmitted either using proprietary encryption methods (e.g. RAS, or PowerVu), or without any encryption. Unencrypted satellite feeds allowed anyone with the correct equipment to view the program material.
