Ideas For Songs
''Ideas for Songs'' is a cassette by Destroyer, released in 1997. The tape was a result of Dan Bejar being asked to contribute a song under the Destroyer moniker for a various artists compilation being curated at the time. As a response he submitted a cassette with 20 songs for them to choose from. The original 20 songs was pared down to 16 and then pressed as "Ideas For Songs" by Granted Passage Cassettes. The cover art features the 1977 painting ''Imperial Nude: Paul Rosano'' by the artist Sylvia Sleigh. ''Ideas for Songs'' was reissued by Triple Crown Recordings of Canada (formerly known as Granted Passage Cassettes) on vinyl on April 5, 2011. It was also made available digitally on iTunes Store. Destroyer (band)
Destroyer is a Canadian indie rock band from Vancouver, formed in 1995. The band is fronted by founding member Dan Bejar, with a collective of regular band members and collaborators joining him in the studio and during live performances. Alongside Bejar, Destroyer currently includes longtime producers John Collins (bass) and David Carswell (guitar), Nicolas Bragg (lead guitar), Ted Bois (keyboards), JP Carter (trumpet) and Joshua Wells (drums). The band's discography draws on a variety of musical influences, resulting in albums that can sound markedly distinct from one another; in Bejar's words, "That's kind of my goal: to start from scratch every time." Destroyer have released thirteen studio albums to date, with their most recent, ''Labyrinthitis'', released in March 2022. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". ''We'll Build Them a Golden Bridge'' is the debut album by Destroyer (band), Destroyer. Originally released on Tinker Recordings in 1996, it was reissued by Scratch Records on October 24, 2006. The album's title is an allusion to Leo Tolstoy's novel ''War and Peace'', in which Mikhail Kutuzov, the commander of the Russian army, promises to build Napoleon and the French army a "golden bridge" out of Russia - that is, to allow the French to continue on their hasty retreat without attempting to do battle, which would only bring about needless destruction and loss of life. Sylvia Sleigh
Sylvia Sleigh (8 May 1916 – 24 October 2010) was a Welsh-born naturalised American realist painter who lived and worked in New York City. She is known for her role in the feminist art movement and especially for reversing traditional gender roles in her paintings of nude men, often using conventional female poses from historical paintings by male artists like Diego Vélazquez, Titian, and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. Her most well-known subjects were art critics, feminist artists, and her husband, Lawrence Alloway. Early life and education Sleigh was born in Llandudno, and raised in England. She studied at the Brighton School of Art. For a time, she worked at a clothing shop in Bond Street, where she recalled "undressing Vivien Leigh". Dan Bejar
Daniel Bejar (; born October 4, 1972) is a Canadian singer and musician from Vancouver, British Columbia. He is the frontman of Destroyer, and is a member of indie rock band the New Pornographers. Overview In 2006, he joined with Carey Mercer of Frog Eyes and Spencer Krug of Sunset Rubdown and Wolf Parade as part of indie supergroup Swan Lake. He has also collaborated with his wife Sydney Hermant as the duo Hello, Blue Roses, whose debut album was released in 2008. Personal life Bejar was born in 1972 to a Spanish father and an American mother at Vancouver General Hospital. An acoustic guitar is a musical instrument in the string family. When a string is plucked its vibration is transmitted from the bridge, resonating throughout the top of the guitar. It is also transmitted to the side and back of the instrument, resonating through the air in the body, and producing sound from the sound hole. The original, general term for this stringed instrument is ''guitar'', and the retronym 'acoustic guitar' distinguishes it from an electric guitar, which relies on electronic amplification.
