Idaten (TV Series)
is a Japanese historical drama television series and the 58th NHK taiga drama. It stars Nakamura Kankurō VI and Sadao Abe as marathon runner Shiso Kanakuri and swimming coach Masaji Tabata respectively. It began broadcasting in 2019 as part of the lead up to the 2020 Summer Olympics in which NHK is, under the Japan Consortium, principal co-host broadcaster. This drama is the 2nd ever post-war taiga drama in NHK history since ''Inochi: Life'' in 1986 and marks the 55th anniversary of the 1964 Summer Olympics, which the NHK broadcast; this is also the last series to premiere in the Heisei era and the first series to air during the Reiwa era. The series received an average rating of 8.2%, the lowest in history for a taiga drama. is a Japanese screenwriter, dramatist, director, actor and member of the theater company ''Otona Keikaku''. Kanji Furutachi
is a Japanese actor. Career Born in Sakai, Osaka, Furutachi traveled to New York in his twenties to study acting at the HB Studio under Uta Hagen. Returning to Japan, he joined the Seinendan theatre troupe run by Oriza Hirata and the Sample theatre troupe run by Shū Matsui. After appearing in many TV commercials, some of which earned him "nationwide popularity", he got significant roles in television dramas and films. He has frequently appeared in films directed by Seinendan member Kōji Fukada. For instance, ''Harmonium'' won the Jury Prize at the Un Certain Regard section of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, with Furutachi gaining particular praise in reviews. Shizo Kanakuri
was a Japanese marathon runner and one of the early leaders of track and field athletics in Japan. He has been celebrated as the "father of marathon" in Japan. Biography Kanakuri was a native of Tamana, Kumamoto, Japan and attended the Tokyo Higher Normal School. During the November 1911 domestic qualifying trials for the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, although the length of the course was probably only , Kanakuri was reported to have set a marathon world record at 2 hours, 30 minutes and 33 seconds. He was thus selected as one of the only two athletes that Japan could afford to send to the event, as both athletes had to pay their own travel expenses of 1,800 yen. Takeshi Kitano
