Icicle Station
Icicle Station, also known as Leavenworth station, is a train station in Leavenworth, Washington, United States. It is served by two daily Amtrak trains on the '' Empire Builder'', which travels west to Seattle and east to Chicago. The station has one platform and is located northeast of downtown Leavenworth, which is noted for its Bavarian village theme. Leavenworth was served by the Great Northern Railway from 1893 until the cancellation of passenger service in the 1950s. The railroad and its successor, Amtrak, continued to run excursion trains and other special services until 1991. The local government began lobbying for a permanent train station in the early 2000s and earned funding from the federal government and private donations. The ''Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce'' is a daily (six days per week) newspaper based in Seattle, Washington. Specializing in business, construction, real estate, and legal news and public notices, it began publication in 1895 as the ''Bulletin'', later the ''Daily Bulletin'' and the ''Seattle Daily Bulletin''. After merging with the ''Times'' in 1907 (an unrelated paper to today's ''Seattle Times''), it published as the ''Morning Times and Seattle Daily Bulletin'' for a year before reverting to its old name. Dinner Train
A dinner train is a relatively new type of tourist train service whose main purpose is to allow people to eat dinner while experiencing a relatively short, leisurely round trip train ride. This contrasts with conventional passenger trains, whose main purpose is to transport passengers to some destination as quickly as possible but which also might serve dinner on long-distance routes. Dinner trains have become popular in recent years, particularly in the United States. This is in part a result of a nostalgia for passenger trains (which are less common in the U.S. than in many other countries) and in part because it provides a very different experience from driving and from eating at ordinary restaurants. Columbia Station (Wenatchee)
Columbia Station, also known as Wenatchee station, is an intermodal train and bus station in Wenatchee, Washington, United States. It is a stop on Amtrak's '' Empire Builder'' train and is the main hub for Link Transit, the local bus system serving Wenatchee and surrounding areas. The station is also served by intercity buses operated by Grant Transit Authority, Northwestern Trailways, and Travel Washington. The station is located at the site of an earlier depot built by the Great Northern Railway in 1910. Amtrak service to Wenatchee began in 1973 with the short-lived '' North Coast Hiawatha'', which ceased operations in 1979. It was followed by the relocated ''Empire Builder'' in October 1981, which stopped at a temporary platform on the site of the demolished depot.
