Icelandic Women's Football League Cup
The Icelandic Women's Football League Cup (Icelandic: Deildarbikar kvenna), known as Lengjubikar kvenna for sponsorship reasons, is a pre-season professional football competition in Iceland. It is considered the third most important competition in Icelandic women's football. The pre-season tournament involves the top 6 clubs in Iceland from the previous season of Úrvaldeild kvenna. It generally takes place between February and May. Format The 6 teams are placed in one group. Each team meets each other once during the pool stage. The final positions of the group are determined after these 5 games are played. The top four of the group automatically gain entry to the next stage in the competition. From the semifinal round it is a purely knockout competition where ties take place over 1-leg only. If a tie is not decided in 90 minutes, penalty kicks are taken to decide the game. Valur Women's Football
The Valur women's football team, commonly known as Valur, is the women's football department of the Valur multi-sport club. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland, and currently plays in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top-tier women's football league in Iceland. The team plays it home games at Hlíðarendi located in Reykjavík. The team's colors are red and white. Valur has won the Icelandic championship 11 times and the Icelandic Women's Cup 13 times. Recent history In 2017, the team hired Pétur Pétursson as head coach. Breiðablik Women's Football
The Breiðablik women's football team is the women's football department of the Breiðablik UBK multi-sport club. It is based in Kópavogur, Iceland, and currently plays in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top-tier women's football league in Iceland. They finished second in the league in 2017 and first in 2018. They won the Úrvalsdeild kvenna in 2020 and are currently competing in the 2021–22 UEFA Women's Champions League. The ÍBV women's football team is the women's football department of the ÍBV-íþróttafélag (English: ÍBV sports club) multi-sport club. It is based in Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland, and currently plays in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna, the top-tier women's football league in Iceland. The team plays it home games at the Hásteinsvöllur. Þór/KA is an Icelandic women's football team based in Akureyri. It is a joint team fielded by Þór Akureyri and Knattspyrnufélag Akureyrar and currently competes in Úrvalsdeild kvenna. On September 29, 2017, they won their second Icelandic championship. History Since 1999, Þór Akureyri and KA have fielded a joint women's team under the name Þór/KA in the Iceland's top tier Úrvalsdeild kvenna. Knattspyrnufélag Siglufjarðar joined the collaboration in 2001 and subsequently the team was named Þór/KA/KS until KS left the collaboration after 2005 season. In 2006 the team finished 7th of 8 teams, 8th/9 in 2007, the reaching a good 4th/10 in 2008 and then bettering those results with 3rd/10 in 2009 and a second-place finish in 2010. Íþróttafélagið Fylkir is a multi-sport club in Árbær, in the eastern part of Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. It features departments in football, handball, volleyball, gymnastics and karate.
