Ice-Capades Revue
''Ice-Capades Revue'' is a 1942 American comedy film directed by Bernard Vorhaus, and written by Bradford Ropes and Gertrude Purcell. The film stars Ellen Drew, Richard Denning, Jerry Colonna, Barbara Jo Allen, Harold Huber and Marilyn Hare. The film was released on December 24, 1942, by Republic Pictures. Plot With her Massachusetts farm in debt, Ann Porter is amazed to hear a deceased uncle has bequeathed her his estate. When she and Aunt Nellie go to New York City to claim the inheritance, it turns out to be an ice-skating rink in rundown condition. Jeff Stewart advises her to sell to ice-follies owner Duke Baldwin, but since Duke is a gangster who put her uncle out of business, Ann's not interested. She takes her skating troupe back to her farm's frozen pond and stages a show outdoors for friends and neighbors to see. A nutty professor, Theophilus J. Bernard Vorhaus
Bernard Vorhaus (December 25, 1904 – November 23, 2000) was an American film director of Austrian descent, born in New York City. His father was born in Krakow, then part of Austria-Hungary. Vorhaus spent many decades living in the UK. Eearly in his career, he worked as a screenwriter, and co-produced the film ''The Singing City''. He was Hollywood blacklist, blacklisted in Hollywood for his communism, communist sympathies, and returned to England, where he resumed his career. Known, alongside Michael Powell, for his quota quickies, Vorhaus also worked in Europe. Career The Harvard University graduate, in addition to directing thirty-two films, was also the mentor to future film director David Lean, some of whose work as a film editor early in his career was on Vorhaus pictures. Pierre Frank Watkin (December 29, 1887 – February 3, 1960) was an American character actor best known for playing distinguished authority figures throughout the Golden Age of Hollywood. American comedy films are comedy films produced in the United States. The genre is one of the oldest in American cinema; some of the first silent movies were comedies, as slapstick comedy often relies on visual depictions, without requiring sound. Robin Lee
Robin Huntington Lee (December 2, 1919 in Saint Paul, Minnesota – October 8, 1997 in Minneapolis) was an American figure skater. He was the 1935-1939 U.S. national champion. At age 12, he became the youngest skater to win the junior national title. At the 1935 United States Figure Skating Championships, at the age of 15, he became the first and, as of 2008, the only skater to defeat a seven time national champion in the United States. Lee represented the United States at the 1936 Winter Olympics, where he placed 12th. He was selected to compete at the 1940 Winter Olympics, which were canceled due to World War II. Rosemarie Stewart (married name: Dench; 22 June 1914 – September 2001) was an English pair skater. She competed in the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the pairs event with partner Ernest Yates. They placed 10th out of a field of 18 teams. She was born in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Donna Atwood
Donna Arlene Atwood (February 14, 1925 – December 20, 2010) was an American figure skater. She was born in Newton, Kansas, to pharmacist Chester Atwood and Allie Atwood, his wife. The family moved to Albuquerque before relocating to Los Angeles when she was 9. She died on December 30, 2010, aged 85, at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. Career Donna began taking dancing lessons at age 3.
