Ibar Highway Assassination Attempt
The Ibar highway assassination attempt refers to the events that occurred on the Ibar Highway in Serbia, a federal unit of FR Yugoslavia on 3 October 1999, when active members of the Yugoslav state security's Special Operations Unit (JSO) attempted to murder politician Vuk Drašković on the Ibar Highway by slamming a truck full of sand into his two-car motorcade. Their intention was to make it appear as though it were a traffic accident. Instead of killing Drašković, who managed to survive the crash, they ended up killing four of his associates: high-ranking Serbian Renewal Movement member Veselin Bošković (who was also Drašković's brother-in-law), along with three bodyguards (Zvonko Osmajlić, Vučko Rakočević, and Dragan Vušurović). Lazarevac
Lazarevac ( sr-cyr, Лазаревац, ) is a municipality of the city of Belgrade. , the town has a total population of 25,526 inhabitants, while the municipal area has a total of 58,622 inhabitants. Its name stems from the name of medieval Serbian ruler Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović. History During the Interbellum, there was an auxiliary military airfield in Lazarevac, part of the air defense of the state capital, Belgrade. On 7 April 1941, during the German bombing of Belgrade, air force unit "Arad", employing 60 Štuka airplanes bombed the airfield in an effort to destroy as many Yugoslav planes as possible. The New Democratic Party of Serbia ( sr, Нова демократска странка Србије, Nova demokratska stranka Srbije, , NDSS or New DSS) is a national-conservative political party in Serbia. Mihalj Kertes
Mihalj Kertes ( sr-Cyrl, Михаљ Кертес, hu, Kertész Mihály; 29 August 194729 December 2022), nicknamed "Bracika", was a Yugoslav and Serbian politician. An ethnic Hungarian, he became a member of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia in 1974 and a close associate of Slobodan Milošević in the late 1980s. He became a prominent figure during the anti-bureaucratic revolution. Kertes was a candidate in the 1989 election for the presidency of Serbia within Yugoslavia but lost in a landslide to Milošević. He joined the Socialist Party of Serbia in 1990 and became the director of the Federal Customs Bureau of Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1993. Kertes provided logistic and financial support for various undercover government operations until the overthrow of Slobodan Milošević, which occurred on 5 October 2000.
